“Cruise ships must not sail down the Giudecca,” Italy's Environment Minister Sergio Costa tweeted after last month's incident. “We have been working on moving them for months now... and are nearing a solution.” .

Any ideas on the solution?

There are two plans: dock at the industrial port in Marghera and bus passengers to Venice, or dredge out a new channel from the barrier islands gap west of the Lido to the existing Marittima port.  Both require environmental studies, engineering, contract letting, construction delays, etc.  Don't hold your breath.
