Barcelona hotel suggestions

Recommended Posts

We are arriving in Barcelona a few days before our Meditteranean cruise. I need help knowing where to stay. Any suggestions for a clean, safe hotel would be very much appreciated. Thank you!

We stayed at Hotel 1898 right on Las Ramblas.  It was convenient,  safe and spectacular!

Hotel Sagrada Familia.  Reasonable priced and great location. Wifi and AC. We got an apartment for 5 people.  Less than $500 for 2 nights..

There are literally hundreds of hotels in Barcelona so be prepared for many suggestions.

We recently returned from our third trip.  All three hotels were safe and clean.  Here are one line reviews

Avenida Palace.  Great location close to Placa Catalunya and convenient to Gaudi houses.

Hotel Jazz - A little less expensive.  Also a good location and recommended by a lot of folks on CC

Tryp Apolo.  Location not as good.  Long walk to Columbus Monument and (other direction) Magic Fountain.

However, taxis are plentiful and easy to get around.

The last time we stayed at the Hotel Jazz. Very clean and nice. Good area.

On our next visit we want to try a different area so were booked at the Ohla Barcelona. Friends stayed here and highly recommended it. We always book rooms where the rates are refundable. Hotel 1898 rates for a refundable room was outrageous compared to their non refundable rates.

Hello! There is most likely no other city in Europe which has that many hotels, B&B and apartments for rent as Barcelona. If you are staying a couple of days you probably want to see all important places like Gaudi's buildings, the Parc Güell, La Sagrada Familia, the Olympic Stadium, Yacht port, Ramblas... best way to get around is the Metro. Safe, clean and fast - and inexpensive. Buy a 10-rides-ticket, that can be used by two.

Staying in the Old Town (looking at the map, this will be the part with tiny streets and alleys "right" of the Ramblas, between Old Port and Placa Catalunya), you'll find a lot of party people there, even in the middle of the night, yelling and singing, it could be a bit nerve-wrecking especially during peak season with tenthousands of youngsters celebrating their school exam etc. So - a nice hotel a beyond the Old Town could be perfect. You'll find rooms from 80/90 up to 500 USD per night, depending on your desired level of luxury. Having a metro station near by could be a great plus!

Getting to the ship will be easy by public transport, too. It's the green metro line L3, that takes you to DRASSANES, close to the Old Port. Leaving the subway station, you'll proceed towards the water, passing the column and statue of Christopher Columbus, towards the Cruise Port Bus Stop, easy to find on Google Maps. The buses are shutteling between this stop and the cruise port, just tell the driver which ship you are sailing on.

Visiting the wonderful Sagrada Familia Cathedral is a must - you'll be overwhelmed. Depending on the season you might be finding endless waiting lines, but booking your visit online, before you travel, allows you to skip the lines: you can pick your favourite time of visit and get a 30 minutes window for the entry. After that, you may stay as long as you like. Several packages are availabe, plain, with audio guide or even with an elevator ride to the top of one of the towers.

We have stayed at the Jazz and the more upscale 1898 - both are excellent choices. We have also stayed the the Continental (cheapest of the three at which we have stayed) and enjoyed our time here as well - rooms are all decorated in shades of pink and our room had a balcony that looked out over Las Ramblas.

Just got back from our trip last week. We stayed at Hotel Arc Las Ramblas and thought it was wonderful. We booked about 8-9 months before our trip and were able to secure their largest room (Duplex 509). It has a huge patio that overlooks Las Ramblas and has two bathrooms - perfect for trying to get ready on the mornings.   We also included breakfast. For two nights it was around 440 euros. It was close to the metro and Columbus Circle and is at end of Las Ramblas. Breakfast was small but had plenty of variety.
