HAL Hotels in Venice post cruise

We are looking at using HAL post cruise in Venice due to not wanting to drage luggage across town.  Does anyone have any experience with the Hotels there?

Whatever you do, don't book a HAL post cruise hotel.   Their prices are horrible, because they charge you per-person, and the same hotel will charge you for the room.   So, you effectively pay almost double.   Once you get off the ship, there are porters and water taxis that will take you to your hotel.  Many Venice hotels have their own docks and the water taxi pulls up to the dock, and you get off, and the hotel staff will take your luggage.   No problem.   

Heading back to the Marco Polo airport, get another water taxi and they will drop you right at the airport terminal where you roll your bags to the checkin counter.   Very easy.

You don't necessarily have to drag luggage across town. You should disembark near the Piazzale Roma. Maybe take a short tram ride from the ship. There are several hotels in the area. Antiche  Figure is one of our favorite hotels of anywhere we've been. It is on a canal. Grand Canal? There are other hotels closer.

 

Venice is small so any location is gonna be decent.

Just FYI, if you opt to take a water taxi or the Alilaguna shared boat to Marco Polo airport the walk + schlepping your luggage from the pier where the boat drops you to the terminal is about 10 minutes. I assume there are most likely porters, although I’ve never used one.

We stayed twice at Foscori Palace.   From the airport in Venice,  walk to a water taxi (a bit pricey, like a limo) takes you to a dock at the hotel.  We booked direct with the hotel.  On the second stay, they upgraded us to a suite on the Grand Canal, with three big windows.  I think the waterbus stop is Ca'Dor.  Their recommendation for restaurants was very good.   Good breakfast included.  Roof top small bar.  Unforgettable memories.  Wander Venice.  You can't get lost.  Small island.

Totally agree with all of TAD’s post but this in particular.

 

Check your hotels out for ones with their own water taxi docks and, perhaps if you post on your roll call you will be able to find someone to share with.  Makes it much more reasonable.

 

Water taxis can be pricey, but it is an exhilarating, beautiful ride and was well worth the price for us.

Do some research, look at a map, assess how much you want to handle your own luggage.  Walking anywhere will entail going over bridges - most only a few steps, but an effort with suitcases.  The vaparetto (ATAC water bus) is currently 7.50 euro single ticket.  Water taxis start at about 60 and can cost 80+.  Porters are available but not cheap - (think of manhandling a load of luggage on a hand cart over canal bridges).  Water taxi to the airport will be 100+, but there is frequent bus service by ATVO for 8.  Venice is expensive, and you trade off cost for convenience.  But it is a wonderful place to visit and wander around.
