Just boarded Grand. Dressing gown question answered and other observations!

Just boarded Grand for our 10 day cruise to Alaska. Sun is out, unobscured view of the bridge so should be a good sail away hopefully.

Someone asked, and I cannot remember who and where, about dressing gowns in suite rooms. We are in the aft OS and the first thing my wife said to me was how nice the NEW dressing gowns seems to be, more ‘waffly’, so if she’s noticed it and commented, it must be good!

There is no main amenity kit as others have mentioned except the cotton wool and ear buds etc.

The brandy cognac has gone from the mini bar and they have two whiskeys now. Shame as we don't drink whisky and liked brandy! Swapped them no bother for extra gin though, and did this for our 2 set ups. Also, instead of the small bottles of champagne you get, we got given one large bottle of a different brand which was a nice surprise. Ice on its way, but we will save it for a sea day and afternoon tea on the balcony!

Something I haven’t seen or read about is that we got escorted on by a tux dressed host (waiter dressed up) on board, as a full suite customer. It wasn’t necessary but a nice touch nevertheless and showed us what we pretty much knew, but my wife thought it was good, so another positive.

I’ve paid $100 or so for unlimited Wi-fi for 300mb per day of standard streaming. This must be discounted from our elite freebie but I thought it worth it. Can I now refrain from logging in/ out as and when now, as it is all inclusive? Let me know if anyone knows as that will be handy.

Lovely expanded wine list and have just brought the gold wine package for use, so that will be good.

All good so far, if anyone has any questions I will answer as and when. Just off to muster soon and then sail away!

thanks.

Can you please comment on how the Internet speed is?  Is it pathetically slow or have they upgraded the Wi-Fi?  I will be on the Grand in October and was wondering what to expect.  Thanks!

Sure. At the moment it’s comparable to previous cruises. Not great but adequate I guess. It’s not pathetically slow, but certainly not fast. This is from my aft room mind you.

Thanks!  The last time I sailed on Princess, I completely gave up trying to use the free Internet minutes that I got for being Platinum because it took minutes to log in and try to get to my email, and longer to read or respond to any messages, even after midnight.  Hoping for a better experience this time.

When you dine at Club Class say hello to the Head Waiter Giovanni and waiters Royston and Edgar.  Tell them that Larry & Ginger will see them in September and that we are bringing a couple of bottles of Nero d'Avola to share with Giovanni..

We always stay logged in 24/7 with the unlimited.

The suite escort is hit or miss depending on the ship.

We have not had one in at least 2 years.

Ah a dressing gown. Have not heard that term in quite some time. My Mum and Dad being from Buxton, Derbyshire area that is all I ever called them when I was growing up.  😊

Bon Voyage!!!

Thanks that’s helpful.

I forgot what the Americans call them! Glad I brought back some memories lol.

Will do! We met him at lunch. We’ve got free Crown Grill tonight but I’ll mention it tomorrow.

Ps. Breakfast is at the Crown as Sabattinis is too small.

We're boarding her as you get off. Keep her in good shape for us!

I had posted the other thread about gathering info from the Grand. Looks like you have some of it covered. Did my husband secretly pay you to force me to actually relax on vacation? 😄

Could you please tell me who the Wheelhouse band is and the Cruise Director??  Thank you.

Cruise Director is Steve Campbell. Early days but his wake show seems flat with just him presenting. Little energy and a bit boring tbh, though sometimes they can be too much. Saw him last night and he was ok.

Rhapsody string trio are in wheelhouse bar tonight.

Hope that helps.

Has the brandy (Courvoisier) disappeared completely from minibars? I had four bottles of the Scotch on my Island Princess cruise last month.

Seems that way, that’s what the steward says. Shame, I will miss that.

Bath robes. That’s what you call them, just remembered!

we currently have 7 leaks and water coming through quite heavy in our cieling. Awaiting Plummer but doesn’t look great. Hope we don’t have to move. Getting heavier. Uho.
