Jon in the ATL Posted July 16, 2019 #1 Share Posted July 16, 2019 Currently at the entrance to Dawes Glacier on Ovation. Tons of ice not permitting the ship to proceed forward to see it up close. A small ferry boat in front of us wasn’t able to navigate ice either. According to staff, this is pretty much the norm. Captain is rotating the ship 360 degrees to view the environment. So make sure you see Mendenhall in Juneau and others along the trip so you are not disappointed. Trip has been fantastic other than that to this point. Temperatures in the 60s on land and cooler at sea. It’s a great ship and Alaska is glorious.
NeedsVitaminSea Posted July 16, 2019 #2 Share Posted July 16, 2019 (edited) Sorry to hear this. We made it on the 6/21 sailing and I knew we were very lucky. I'm glad the rest of the trip has gone so well! We are still missing being on the ship. I hope the rest of the trip is wonderful! We saw lots of whales when we left Endicott Arm so keep your eyes peeled. Edited July 16, 2019 by NeedsVitaminSea
celoplyr Posted July 16, 2019 #3 Share Posted July 16, 2019 We made it on the 7/5 sailing, but couldn't see the glacier for the glare from the sun!! I'm glad we saw Hubbard last year on the Radiance.
iceman168 Posted July 17, 2019 #4 Share Posted July 17, 2019 Alaska conditions change week by week. How bad is the haze from the forest fire?
