Royal question

We were on the Royal in May and several times I noticed the smoke smell when I was on the level above where the shops are - it definitely seemed to drift up there at times and was most unpleasant. I liked the Royal but this aspect seems a real design flaw.

Sadly, the smoke smell was pro nounced in April.  However, we didn’t notice it the previous year, or on the Regal.   That was the only thing we didn’t care foron the Royal.   Smell wafted into the  gift shop, too.

I've been on both the Royal and Regal a buttload of times. I've never really smelled the smell of smoke on the upper level and like one of the poster says nor have I smelt it in the club 6 as well. And I personally dislike the smell of smoke so I know it would be something I would have noticed if it was predominant or not.

Been on board a total of 62 days. I avoid any areas with smoke, but never found any smoke issue on deck 7 above the casino while passing by. There are no real passenger venues in this area where passengers spend lots of time. There is a shop and the art gallery. Smoking in the casino is restricted to certain slots while playing. There is no smoking at casino tables and at the casino bar, so the amount of smoke is limited. Also no cigar or pipe smoking in the casino. I agree that it was someone's poor design. Newer Royal Class ships do not have this feature.

We were on the Royal 2 weeks ago and I did not notice any smoke smell. Even in the casino or Club 6 it was hardly noticeable.

We were on the Royal week of July 6.  Only noticed the smoke if we needed to "cut thru" the casino.

You can definitely smell it as you walk through & sometimes in the close by shops.

By then again I'm sensitive to the stench & can notice it immediately.

We usually try to avoid going through the area if at all possible.

I’ve never noticed the smell up above. The smoking area is along the window side so not where the open staircase area is. Also, such few people smoke in there now that it’s a small smoking area.

Agree.  Smoking is just permitted on the more narrow machine side of the tables.  I can’t even smell it at the tables or the other machine side.  Also, no smoking on Formal Nights.

You're obviously more tolerant of secondhand smoke than most non-smokers.

For me, even on formal nights the casino still smells of smoke hours after they've stopped smoking.

I hate the smell of smoke and found it very offensive on deck 7 above the casino when I was in the shopping area.  I can't figure out why they would design an opening above the casino where they allow smoking????

I agree that the design/location of the casino is "odd."  In addition to the problem you describe, the casino is much smaller than on the older ships (agreed that there was a lot of wasted/unused space in those).  Considering it's presumably a profit center for the ship, one would think they would make it more inviting.  There is very little room to walk in the area with the slot machines especially if people are sitting at/using most of the machines and nearby that area the tables for those games are jammed together.
