Grand Cayman - What to Do

Hi.  My family and I are sailing on the Carnival Conquest this Saturday, July 27th.  We have booked excursions in 3 out of our 4 ports, not booking Grand Cayman.  We are just looking to relax on a beach without paying the crazy $35 per person for the excursion.  Can anyone tell me how easy it is to do a beach on our own?  How do we get there and what is recommended?  Any suggestions would be greatly, greatly appreciated since we ship out in 5 days.

Having walked to Seven Mile Beach several times it should be said that it requires a modicum of fitness. The walk is quite nice and enjoyable but the heat can be an issue for youngsters, elderly, handicapped and those in average or below physical condition. If you are unsure if this is an option for you, familiarize yourself with the mini-bus service which operates along the main road north of town. You may find it a lifeline if you bite off more than you can chew.

Hop on a bus (looks like a long van) and it will drop you anywhere.  Chair/umbrella rentals at all entry points.    Hop on the bus to go back in the afternoon.  Very easy!  $2;50 pp...

We did this on our first trip to GC.  Told the driver to drop us at Cemetery Beach.  When we were ready to go back to the ship we only had to walk out to the highway and wave at a returning van.  The driver honked at us, we waved and he picked us up.  Cheap and easy.

We have used the collectivos (public transportation) in Mexico too.  Works swell.
