A few of us will be spending a couple of days before the cruise in Miami. What is the best area to stay in where we can just walk around to shops, bars, restaurants?

We stayed at the Hampton Inn Brickell.  This area is just steps away from restaurants, shopping and bars.  It is in the financial district of Miami and we felt very safe there.

We would not hesitate to stay there again.  Check them out on Trip Advisor...

Brickell, South Beach, or downtown areas are the most popular. Brickell has lots of shopping and restaurants. South Beach/ Miami Beach has a big shopping/ restaurant area. Downtown has restaurants but not much shopping, Bayside downtown has some shopping and restaurants.

For a few days I would go with South Beach. But Downtown and Brickell area is very good location as well. Regardless if you stay in either, you should take a visit to the other, its a quick Uber ride. But staying in Miami Beach will give you the "Miami" you see in movies, lots of bars and places to eat to walk around to and of course walking to the beach.

Brickell will be more local, and honestly better places to eat and drink.

Stay south of 5th in south beach.  A quiet neighborhood a few short blocks from the crazy excitement.  Also the beach here is almost private. Look on Airbnb for affordable, beachfront options

South Beach for sure if you have a couple of days.

I like to stay in the area oceanfront north of 14th on Collins but we always hang out South of Fifth (Prime 112, Joes, Smith & Wollensky, Nikki Beach, Montyys) and the marina is there.

If you prefer to stay closer to the port, then stay at the Holiday Inn Port of Miami or near there.  There is a lively area of restaurants and night spots across the park at the marina.  And many restaurants and clubs in the downtown area.

You can get downtown from the airport on public transit for $2.25.

Also easy 30 min trip to south beach on the #150 airport express bus also $2.25.
