Dave’s Live from Zuiderdam Voyage of the Vikings, July 30 – Sept. 3, 2019

Recommended Posts

Aug. 31, Halifax (Cont.)

We just stayed on the ship for the afternoon, and enjoyed uncrowded spaces.  We have been to Halifax many times before and taken all the shore excursions that appeal to us.  We expect to walk ashore tomorrow morning and get a coffee – either a double-double at Timmy’s, or a latte at another coffee shop.  Then later, a stroll and lunch.  Basically, an easy-going day.

Here are tonight’s dinner and dessert menus:

Sept. 1, Halifax, day 2

The internet has been out all morning and was just restored.  This morning, I saw something I’ve never seen before – sunrise in Halifax:

It’s another beautiful day.  Here is today’s When and Where:

We returned to the ship and found that the internet had been restored, so I posted the When and Where and the sunrise photo.  Then we were off again, taking a stroll along the shoreline.  We passed Bishop’s Landing:

And then DW spotted a sign for an express tour to Peggy’s Cove.  Somehowe we don’t think that vessel would get us there very comfortably.

We noticed that part of the Harbourwalk is closed for construction, and the city has put up a temporary floating sea bridge:

We saw a sign that shows what they are building – new housing:

And then it was to one of our favorite lunch spots in Halifax, Salty’s,  for lunch – a burger for DW, and for me, a steamed mussels starter with a side of fries, and a beer.  I started the blog with photos of me and seafood lunch, so I thought I would do the same at the last port of the cruise:

After lunch, we took a slow stroll back along the water.  It is a holiday weekend, and the City is putting on a festival on the harbor.  There were lots of people about eating, listening to live music, jogging, cycling, etc.  Here are some photos I took as we went:

And then I saw a photo that captured the afternoon; I called it “reflections on a beautiful day”:

It truly was a glorious warm and sunny day in Halifax.

We had emailed our sons that we had missed St. John’s due to the remnants of Erin.  One of them emailed back a photo of a Cat 3 Hurricane he found online somewhere that I thought I would share with you:

I know some onboard are concerned about Hurricane Dorian, and making flights home to Florida, and evacuations are underway in some parts of the state … sorry, but that was too good not to share.

More tomorrow,

Dave
