Just got home from this cruise, first time to Alaska. Loved, loved, loved the scenery! Hated, hated, hated the weather! It really wasn't bad for Alaska, but I'm used to sailing in January to the Caribbean. Nice change from our weather in Ohio. This cruise, it was 30 degrees colder than at home and I paid to go there. Worst part was all the cloths yah gotta take and all the changing yah gotta do during the trip. I did remember to bring 2 pairs of swimming trunks, never took either out of the suitcase. But, Alaska is gorgeous and a must do! IMO, best port is Ketchikan. Best excursion hands down, seaplane over 5 glaciers in Juneau. Pleasantly surprised by Victoria BC, beautiful port/city.

About the ship, love the Spirit class, did Miracle to Hawaii. Found the decor a little dark on the Legend but the layout is great. Chandaliers in the MRD hideous. Have no idea why they put waterworks on the back. Entertainment  in theater was poor! Food, about the same as other ships. Steakhouse was OK, not great. Bonzai Sushi was great! Platinum gift was a lanyard.......how sad. Do they REALLY think the platinum cruisers need a lanyard? They used to give them away in the casino. Speaking of, hammered the slots, got back all my wife lost. Seattle very interesting port to sail in/out.

Anyway, epic experience, but I'll stick to the warm ports going forward.

lol it's so funny to hear you complain about the cold.  I'm from Alabama and due to sail on the Legend to Alaska in 10 days and that's the thing i'm looking forward to the most about Seattle/Alaska/Canada--colder weather.  It's 90+ degrees here.  We did the Bahamas in September 2 years ago and it was so hot in Nassau/Freeport right when it was about to cool down here so I totally get it, though.

Glad you liked the Bonsai Sushi.  That's one i'm hitting myself just because the prices are so good there.

I'm from Enterprise, Alabama and love your username!  I graduated from TSU but am more of an Auburn fan than Troy fan LOL

Thanks! Spent a few weekends I don’t quite remember in Troy as I had some friends in school there while I went to AU. Lived in Dothan about 7 years ago, too.

hahaha.  I actually went to TSUD so that's pretty cool.  We live about 30 minutes away from Dothan and we are there all the time. Great little city, if you don't count the traffic.

My suggestion is to pack for warm and cool weather. Seattle and Victoria can both be very warm in the summer, in the 80's and 90's.

You're welcome. We lived in Victoria BC for a few years snd loved the quaint city. If you can go yo Seattle a couple of days prior, and tour the city, I think you'll enjoy it. The downtown Pike Place Market area is really busy in the summer, but I love it there! A trip to Seattle isn't complete for us without a ride to the top of the Seattle Space Needle for a view of the mountains and area is spectacular.

Enjoy your cruise!

Headed to the Legend for the August 6th cruise tomorrow.  This was on my husbands bucket list while I prefer a warmer climate but still looking forward to the trip.  I just wish we were in Victoria longer as we loved the city.  Thanks for the info last time on the Legend was out of Tampa 7yrs ago.

Yep, weather is so personal that you just have to plan for what you love.  I personally, pretty much hate any weather warmer than 75.  The islands are almost unbearabale with the heat and humidity that i just want to get off for lunch and get right back to air conditioning.... Oh, and sitting on a beach baking in the sun with sand up your butt all day is just not my thing.

I loved Alaska and the 65 degree temps!

We are planning to do an Alaskan cruise in the beginning of June 2021.  Will be nice to leave the heat of Nola for cooler temps up north in June.  We are both beach people and had to really twist my wife's arm for this cruise, but it's a bucket list trip for me.

I've never done Alaska.  Everyone that knows how often I've sailed asks me but my response is always that if I retire to FL or AZ, then maybe I'll want a cool-weather cruise but until then, bring on the heat of the Caribbean!  I hated the packing for our Vista inaugural and the cool, damp weather in many of the European ports on that cruise and on our Star/Horizon B2B TAs May 2018.  Really difficult to pack for those mixed-weather itineraries, especially if you need to fly overseas with luggage restrictions.

I love the Spirit-class ships.  Layout is so much better than Carnival's typical designs and the space ratio is much better.  Sailed Miracle twice and Pride once, so really looking forward to Legend.  Booked the final Legend Med sailing + the TA for October 2021.

The group doing the main shows couldn't harmonize to save their souls. It was painful to listen, we walked out twice. Saw the exact same Motown show on the last cruise and they were great. The cast on Legend needs work!

Bottom line, one does not cruise Alaska for the same reason one cruises the Caribbean.  They are completely different experiences.  If someone doesn't figure that out before they book and take the cruise, that's on them.  There was literally a person on here some months back asking if the water slides would be open every day.  🙄

We are just back from the Legend to Alaska.  Loved every minute of it.  Glacier Bay was spectacular!  My first chance to try a Guy's Burger and I thought it was excellent and the fries were killer.  Weather was as we expected and we prepared.  Rode the Mt Robert's Tram in Juneau and I recommend it.  $35.00 pp and worth every nickel.  Nice shop at the top and amazing views during the ride.  The ship(s) get real small!  :-)  We had done the train trip in Skagway on a previous trip and thought it to be wonderful if just a bit pricey.

But are the hot tubs open?

We are gonna do an Alaskan cruise next year.

We live in Tampa and my wife is looking forward to shopping for the cruise almost as much as the cruise itself.😅

I probably need to update my wardrobe from flip flops and shorts too.😲

Okay dead, here's the MOST IMPORTANT advice you'll get.  Do NOT allow her to get you guys matching coats.  We northerners spot it right away and chuckle under our breath.  Enjoy.  Alaska is awesome.  😁

Absolutely.  And any covered pool gets a pretty good workout too.  It's just not a 'lay in the sun in your swimwear all day' kind of cruise.

CruizinKittie40, you will enjoy the temperature change in Alaska.  Bring layers and you will be fine.  The scenery is amazing.  Enjoy your cruise! Sorry about this, but just have to say......Roll Tide!

Back  from the Legend and Alaska, the weather was gorgeous.  We had met a couple when we toured Seattle that had just  gotten off the ship and they said they loved it except for the misty rain and fog which affected some of the scenery.  Well we must have brought some of NC weather with us.  We dressed every morning for the 50's temps and by lunch we were peeling clothes off and looking for our shorts. By lunch it was in the high 70's and no humidity.  We did laugh when locals complained how hot it was and humid.  Sunshine no rain and no humidity by our standards only one day of fog and it was a sea day.  Loved this cruise and had to tell my husband he was right.

Our take was Alaska is an amazingly beautiful state. The tours that actually departed were outstanding. My bucket list trip of  a helicopter to a private fly fishing river was cancelled due to fog. Being a bit claustrophobic, sea days drove me crazy. the shops, casino, hallways, atrium are all packed, veritably no one was outside. We decided our next Alaska trip will be land based.

Had somewhat of the opposite, pools covered and the outside one on the back was full of people because it was warm and beautiful from lunch to about 4:30 - 5pm
