Sure, not everyone enjoys dining the way we do, but my question wasn't answered?   Why do people want to eat and go?  I probably is not that they need to make a show, since they could always plan to eat sooner.

It certainly could be that they want to get to the show.  Why rush to get ready for the evening if you can just request a quicker dinner.  Maybe they took a nap or stayed by the pool longer than they anticipated.  Maybe they had a late lunch or snack and didn't want to have dinner at 5.30 but still wanted to hit the 8.00pm show or music venue, trivia or casino event.  Maybe they waited to be seated in the dining for 30 minutes and now were behind schedule for meeting friends or attending the show/trivia/etc.  There are literally dozens of reasons why people might want to avoid a long dinner either every night or once in a while.

If I'm traveling solo, I usually want to be out within an hour max.  I request a table by myself, let the waiter know that he can bring appetizers/soup/salad at the same time.  If I'm not in a rush, I may request a shared table, knowing that it'll be a bit slower service.

Back to my point that not everyone is the same as you....

Four trips on the Breakaway under my belt. MDR and specialty restaurants always at least 90 minutes, usually between 90 and 2 hours.  2 or 3 times it went to 2 1/2 hours and I was quite unhappy about it.  We eat early, and starting at 5:30 should be early enough to get to shows in the 7-7:30pm time frame but we are always rushing or late.

As noted above, we always try to move the waiter along:  "We are ready to order".  Looking for missing utensils, butter, salt, pepper early... a common problem (the standard of service in the dining rooms is not great any more.)

When it gets to the end of our meal I can see them prioritizing delivery of salads and entrees to other tables and the time until taking dessert order and delivering it is always too long... and often dessert arrives but coffee did not... additional delay. An expediter may deliver food and the waiter does not stop by immediately to see if all is okay.

If you can tell, the MDR is not my favorite place to eat.
