just watched the Equinox with Capt. Kate depart Nassau for the last time as her captain on Equinox . It was great to hear the Equinox and MSC Seaside exchange whistle blasts to give the Captain a great send off goodbye. Having sailed with her before, I wish her good health smooth sailing and keep being the wonderful person you are. Good luck to you Captain Kate. Can't wait until we meet again. Thoughtfully yours, Keith Watt. 😍

We had Capt. Kate on our Can-NE cruise on the Summit back in fall 2015.  I'm thinking it was her time at the helm or close to it.  She came to a CC function and we were quite impressed and happy to see a woman finally at the helm.  Don't know if any other lines have one.

There are about a dozen women captains of major lines and more on smaller lines, river cruises and the like.

So she wasn't the first, but pretty sure she was the first on Celebrity.  Do you happen to know which cruise line/ship was the first to have a woman captain?  And when the first woman captained a ship?  We've done 52 ocean cruises on 3 lines and she's the only woman captain we've had.

The first woman appointed captain of a cruise ship was Karin Stahre-Janson of Sweden, who took command of Royal Caribbean's Monarch of the Seas in 2007

Thanks for that info!

Following in Stahre-Jansen and Royal Caribbean's footsteps were the P&O Cruises with the promotion of Captain Sarah Breton in 2010 and Cunard's Captain Inger Olsen also in 2010.

Wikipedia says Stahre-Janson was the first woman to captain a "mega" cruise ship.  Course what was "mega" in 2007 is different from what it is today, probably.  Other ships she captained:  Serenade OTS (2010) and Majesty OTS (2013).  She may be retired now--Wikipedia was not clear about that.  All three of "her" ships were in the 74000-90000 GT size.  By comparison Capt. Kate's current ship, the Equinox, is 122,000 GT.
