How many cruises do you do a year?

We cruise about once every two years.

Most of our cruises are about 2 weeks in Europe.  So, between the cost of air fare to Europe, hotel etc for a few days before the cruise, and then the cruise, it takes a while to save up for the trip.

We're not big fans of heat, so we don't cruise the Caribbean.

Maybe if we won the lottery we'd cruise more often.

Our record is 7 in one year.  Mostly "free" ones from casinos.  But we are having a dry spell due to advanced cancer suffered by our daughter-in-law.  We don't want to be too far away from home.  Haven't cruised since last February.

 

We attended a cocktail party at a casino a week or so ago and the woman sitting next to me told us she had just booked her 18th cruise for this year.  And it was only the end of July !!!  My guess is she is a high roller with both land based and shipboard casinos and gets most of them comped.

1-2 times a year depending on how many week long + land vacations we take that year.  Our schedules currently allow us to take 3 week long + vacations a year.  Two of those vacations are just DH and myself and one of those vacations is with our adult kids who are 22 and 25-both unmarried.  DS lives 16 hours away so we like to have a family vacation for everyone to reconnect.  One of those vacations is usually a cruise, in recent years that has been two of those vacations have been cruises.  I will be retiring in Jan 2021.  DH is already retired.  I expect that number to go up, both land and cruise vacations, once our time is freed up from job demands.

It is not a matter of how many cruises but how many nights we are out on a cruise.  This year we will do three cruises, 9 nights on the Jewel of the Seas, 7 nights on the Allure and 4 nights on the Independence of the Seas.  In 2020 we have a 25 night cruise cruise on the new ship Enchanted Princess.  We now enjoy combining land and cruise vacations, allows for the best of both worlds.

Zero point in spending two horrible days flying for a three day cruise (or to London, Paris, Rome or wherever for a very short vacation).  The annoyance of a flight should be figured as part of the cost of a vacation (land- or ship-based);  you want the vacation to be worth at least the cost (in both dollars and annoyance).

1 or 2 cruises a year usually.  This year 3 cruises, but extra is due to  2 short(8+9 days) b2b cruses.  Some years 1 cruise and 1 land tour.  19 cruises since 1995.  Prior to 2010, mostly road trips/land tours, 48 states, 7 Canada provinces.

Yeah, I agree that I wouldn't fly to Europe for a long weekend.  As for being horrible, I sleep for a good portion of the flights, so don't find them to be so bad.

I had 3 this year, which was the most, I guess? I can see myself going on the Star Trek cruise every year, so that's at least 1. Then it's likely that there'd always be at least 1 more, depending on my other travel plans.

Actually, the flight part isn’t the problem - I can sleep anywhere; it’s getting to the airport, checking in, clearing TSA and boarding/deplaning that ruins my day — little difference whether it’s a one hour or six hour flight - it’s all the rest that’s the aggravation;  and totally unacceptable if there is a connection.

About 1-2 totaling at least 20 days per year.  Taking this year off as I’ve retired and we moved in with mom, to get things put in order and search for responsible caregiver to come in to help with some daily tasks while we’re cruising.  Have two booked for next year, and can’t wait!

Since I took my first cruise in 2013, we have cruised between one to three times a year.  This year it will be three, but if I can manage another one in December I will do it.

The process can be a PITA.  Access to the airline's lounge and preferential treatment helps.  But like everything, comes at a price.  And, not available everywhere.   I am 6'-4" tall.  As I got older and less flexible, legroom became a non-negotiable travel requirement.  Buying those seats often includes other perks that make the boarding/deplaning process much easier.

lyWe used to be able to cruise only every two or three years. Now that DH is retired, we are doing about one a year. Once I retire, we hope to do at least  a couple a year.

My average is about 1/2 cruise a year for the past 30 years. I wish I could take more but I do not wish to travel alone and coordinating it with relatives is difficult.

It used to depend on many factors: when we were younger and working and healthy, 2 cruises a year. Now, since we've retired living on a retiree's income and with nagging minor health problems the wife mentioned we might have to just take 1 a year, most likely the third week in April (our anniversary). However IF the situation arises and happens to fall into our laps. well....!!😁 We've had our April cruise and lo,and behold a Christmas cruise appeared like a star in the heavens with a price that nicely fit our frugal budget (we had done this cruise last year, our first holiday cruise, and LOVED it) so the wife said, 'Why NOT !' I know this probably cannot last, but hey, I'll go on as many cruises as long as I'm physically able !! Life's way to short too sit at home and wonder, 'What did I MISS...?'

Interesting replies for sure.  I normally cruise 2 to 3 times a year.  Over time, I have done 4 in a year(not very often on that one), occasionally done 3 in year, but normally it is always 2.

  This year is the 2 mark....I went in April and it was for 11 nights and I am going on a River Cruise out of Venice next month.

 

  My BIG CRUISE is coming in 2020 as I will be retiring and already put a deposit down for a TA crossing/another cruise behind it (so that will be 22 days) and then I am planning to do a 3rd

behind the 22....which will be a river cruise on the Seine for 8 nights so basically I will be gone a month.  This is in April/May.

 

I will then look for another trip for late summer/early fall. Maybe a crossing coming West this time

Hey Mac,  I may not want to come back. And I have no husband/partner/mate, etc......so it is all up to me how long I stay away
