Freedom of the Seas - boarding time suggestions and where for lunch?

We will be in San Juan the night before so can get to the ship any time the day of embarkation. We are in a Grand suite if that matters. We would like to beat the crowds and make the most of that day on the ship. Also when we board we would like a nice relaxing lunch so the windjammer is not an option. Any suggestions of where to eat? Thank you all so much!

Chops should be open at 12pm on embarkation day, as well.  It's an upcharge, but you can book it now via Cruise Planner.

We did this for our upcoming Freedom cruise in October... it's always so nice to get out of the hectic Windjammer on departure day and have a quiet meal.

Hi! So I actually went on Freedom in the beginning of July. We stayed at the Sheraton that is right across the street from the pier- the Puerto Rico Resort & Convention Center. We left there and got to the pier at 11:15am. No joke I was walking on the ship at 11:30am- we never stopped for a minute except to check in at the desk (which we had a suite as well and it literally took 5 minutes). I would recommend that. When we dropped our luggage off there were people there but not many so it was fairly organized and easy to walk around.

We went to Windjammer for lunch and we were able to find a table without a problem. Also, there is a bar across from guest services that was perfect when we got onboard and we hung there for a while too and we were practically by ourselves.

I also have a post all about the Main Dining Room Menus!
