Old Town Trolley Tour and starting mid-route

Hi All -

We're interested in taking the trolley tour to learn more about Key West and its history, but we do not want to board at the first stop on Front Street.  Instead, we are planning on getting off the ship early, walking down to the Southernmost point, grabbing breakfast and then hopping on the trolley at the 12th stop on Duval/Truman and then looping all the way around.  I understand that the trolley is hop on/ hop off, but I'm wondering if it's possible to initially board at that stop (which is almost the last one)? Has anyone done this and if so, does it throw the whole understanding/sequence of things out of whack?

Thanks in advance for your input!

The stops are not "progressive" in the sense that you need to know what's at stop 1 to understand what's at stop 2, 3, etc. You can board for the first time at any stop so your plan is good. And FWIW there's three (at least) good places for breakfast only a few minute's walk from the S'most Point, all of which are on Duval --->

The Banana Cafe ---> http://www.bananacafekw.com/ (hint - La Formidable)

Croissants de France --->  http://www.croissantsdefrance.com/ (hint - poached eggs in a toasted brioche)

La Grignote --->  http://lagrignotecafe.com/ (hint - anythiing with crust)

As long as you have a ticket you can get on anywhere on the route.  There is a ticket office at Duval and Truman since that is also one of the three stops on The Conch Train, which is a shorter tour run by the same company that’s stays in Old Town.

The guide does give a general overview of Key West history as you leave the first stop, but nothing that would prevent you from enjoying the rest of the tour.

What PJK and Keywester said.

The "tour" on OTT doesn't follow any chronological order and will vary from driver to driver.  And purchasing a ticket will allow you to hop on at any stop - we always stay on Upper Duval and get on at stop 11 which is closer to the Southernmost Point than 12 - there is a gift shop there where you can also buy tickets.

The entire loop will run about 90 minutes
