egallag Posted April 19, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 19, 2004 ok. I have to ask this question, and maybe someone will know. We are leaving out of NYC on the Legend in July, on my honeymoon cruise out of NYC a few years back we were in cabin 7174 and as I remember we could not see the Statue of Liberty from our balcony when leaving and had to go up on deck. Does anyone know which side of the ship to be on to see Lady Liberty from your balcony when leaving NYC? And please be very simplistic in giving me the side...something like "when facing the front of the ship, be on your right." Thanks. Beth
davy jones Posted April 19, 2004 #2 Share Posted April 19, 2004 When leaving NYC from the passenger ship terminal, the Statue of Liberty is on the starboard side of the ship. Starboard = right when facing bow (front of ship) Port = left when facing front. I remember which is which by remembering that port and left each have 4 letters. And Davy Jones very helpful also, I like the port and left both have 4 letters, that helps. But, you say Liberty is on the right and Fritz says on the left? metfan747 Posted April 19, 2004 #6 Share Posted April 19, 2004 When leaving the port it's on your right, and when returning, on the left.
Linerguy Posted April 19, 2004 #7 Share Posted April 19, 2004 "When we sailed out in Sept on the Victory it was on the left side of the ship." Not unless you sailed around her and viewed her (from) behind! She was on your left when you came back.
trvlexprt Posted April 19, 2004 #8 Share Posted April 19, 2004 Definitely on the right side of the ship going out.As Linerguy said unless the ship sailed backwards out Lady Liberty is on the right side. Best thing to do is go up to a top deck and see her and you go by. Legend to Bermuda - 4/23/

tlynnie Posted April 21, 2004 #10 Share Posted April 21, 2004 Rather than start a new thread, I figured I'd hijack this one... How long does it take to get to the Statue? I'm concerned about a 5pm sailing and 6:30 dinner, should we be past by then, assuming we leave on time? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Too many days since the Legend (10/03) Looking forward to Victory...6/04!!! momofmeg Posted April 29, 2004 #12 Share Posted April 29, 2004 Liberty was on our right side too when we sailed out of New York. It wasn't on Victory though but Pacfic Princess but I assume no matter what ship you are on you sail out of the harbor the same direction. Ground Zero was on our left.
