TeaBag, sounds like you're going to have a great trip! If you decide to take the boat ride under the falls then you should book this as soon as you arrive at Melia. There is an excursion stand on the floor just below the main entry desk. Have fun!

Thank you for the pointers Kathynorth!

we are going to the Melia January 10-12 after our cruise.  Will book as soon as possible at excursion desk.  Thx also for the tip on the credit card hold issue.  Never would have thought of that!

hope you had a good time!

We had a great time and hope you do too! We're typically moderate-budget travelers, but thought the stay at Melia was well worth the cost. The credit card situation caught us off guard and at first we were thinking oh no an 18 day trip with no credit cards!  Then it all made sense when I received the text messages. If you book the boat trip for the afternoon of your first day or early morning of day 2, then you may be able to purchase a video ($15usd) of your zodiac going under the falls. You need to be staying over that night in order to receive the video copy since it takes time for them to burn the copies and deliver them to all the hotels. They give you a rubber bag to store your personal belongings such as wallet, phone, etc. Don't bother with rain gear. You will get 100% soaked regardless of what you wear. Have fun!

Thank you @kathynorthfor all this wonderful info. We plan to fly to Iguazu from BA post-cruise and stay 2 nights at Melia. However, we plan to fly back to the States beginning with a flight from the Iguazu airport on the Brazilian side.  I’ll need to search for info on getting from the Melia in Argentina to the Iguazú airport on the Brazil side. Perhaps a CC reader has experience they could share??

Thanks to all who posted here. Just booked our DIY return trip to Iguazu Falls in Jan 2024, staying at the Belmond as we are heading out from Rio. The information you all provided has really helped sort this out especially post covid!
