Has Royal banned smoking in casinos on all ships?

You can ban smoking in the casinos but it is still going to permeate from every pour of the place until they replace everything.  It is in the carpets, in the very chairs you sit on.  Heck, its in the slots.  Your still going to get the same smell, for sure not as heavy, but still there.

There may still be some stench but there won’t be smoke to breathe.

I don't think I argued that did I?  All I'm saying is the smell will still be there.  Didn't say anything about there NOT being a difference.

For anyone else reading my comment, all I'm saying is the smell will still be there till it is renovated.  I'm not saying it shouldn't be banned or its bad it's being banned or any of the other things you think I might be saying.  Just that it will still smell.  Am I wrong????

Yes, but US airlines are governed by U.S. Laws. Unfortunately, ships are governed by the laws of the country they are registered  in, and they offer a favorable political climate to the cruise lines.

I wonder why RC has banned smoking in casino when cruising from Australia or UK but not US. I understand they are govern by countries they are registered from. But why banned from Australia & UK?

Looking forward to Serenade cruising out Sydney...no smoke billowing out of the casino and up through the Centrum (or as Bob calls it...smoke distribution system)  🤢

Agree, Class of ship worst for smoke. For while at least one of the 3 Formal nites was smoke free, hopefully soon every nite...and day

From what I understand, the new Virgin cruise line will be non-smoking (and adults only, but that's another thread).

I hope this will put some pressure on mainstream lines to reduce smoking areas, and maybe even try having ships that are entirely smoke-free. I doubt it will happen soon, but I can hope.

Why then are they banned on ships, from UK and Australia? Ships are still registered with foreign countries.

On sister brand it seems to have been implemented already, no smoking in the casino of the Celebrity Edge recently

And that is the reason even with being offered freebie sailings on Celebrity I refuse to sail them. Every NCL new build has less and less places to smoke which is why I have started sailing Royal...If Royal does away with casino smoking....I will move on from them too.

I have a non smoking casino 20 minutes from my house.....yet I take a 2 1/2 hour ride to Atlantic City instead....wanna guess the reason why?

Bit sad, but okay.

In Europe, they are obliged to follow the rules of the embarkation country.

uk cruises therefore have to follow the smoking ban

the smoking ban doesn’t follow through to other EU member states however so Barcelona cruises don’t for example. This is the same reason sales tax and gratuities are fully incorporated into the price as “duty free” does not apply if you do not leave the EU. Non-EU pax can claim the VAT back when leaving the EU

Not sure if it changes with itinerary, but just returned from Ovation to Alaska - no indoor smoking permitted anywhere in the ship, casino included. It was FANTASTIC. There were several outdoor smoking areas.

Very encouraging!

Interesting, thanks for explaining

As someone who sends a lot of time in the casino, I will say that the time on my b2b Australian/New  Zealand cruises was wonderful!    However I will say that the ventilation on the mega ships must be strong because I didn’t notice the smoke as much on Allure last month.

Yeah, it's those sea days that are the worst.  Smoke smell is all over the Centrum, and wafting up through to other decks near it on all four sisters.  Nasty.

If that's so, it must be a very recent change.  I was on Ovation for an Alaska cruise on Aug. 2 - Aug. 9, 2019 and spent a lot of time in the casino and smoking was pretty heavy.  They do have a non-smoking section but the smoke definitely leaks over to the non-smoking section.  I actually try to sail Celebrity more often because they have a non-smoking casino.

We heard smokers say that banning smoking in restaurants & bars would kill business.... but it didn’t. Most smokers will adjust and non smokers will spend more time in casino. Smoke free casinos are coming. Just like smoke free cabins/balconies and all indoor venues have switched to non smoking!

I was on the Ovation in June and I also thought the casino was non smoking but there were several people playing slots near the bar that were smoking in that area every day.

Thanks for the replies - interesting to say the least. Yes, the smoking policy was posted in the Compass every day and there was absolutely no indoor smoking permitted (this was Ovation to Alaska, Aug.30 - Sept.6). I will be sure to mention in my survey that I loved this change and hope it stays this way. We'll see. 😊
