Christmas in Sydney

We will spend Christmas in Sydney. Just wondering should we make dinner reservations now? What is there to do on Christmas Day? We actually port on December 22nd and will fly back home on December 26th. Would appreciate any suggestions.

Sydney is pretty deserted on Christmas Day.

 It’s a family day,so like to have a big lunch,some just have a picnic.

If you want to do something special I would book now as a lot of things will be closed,

you could go to the fish market the day before and and get a picnic. Botanical gardens or the beach.

Agree with stocking up at the Fish Market the day before Christmas.  Do what many locals do and take a picnic lunch to any beach on Christmas Day.  Personal favourite is Balmoral Beach as it has a lot of shade in summer.  Ferry to Taronga Zoo then bus to Balmoral (or scenic walk).

 

Another suggestion is to join Wayside Chapel at Kings Cross, where everyone is welcome at Christmas. 

 

Then Boxing Day, 26/12, take a picnic to the headland overlooking the ocean, from Watson's Bay (take ferry) and join the festive atmosphere watching the start of the Sydney to Hobart Yacht race.  

 

We have done all of the above.
