Oceania Penthouse vs. Oceania vs. Vista Cabin's

This will be my wife and my 18th cruise.  It will fall under our 40th wedding anniversary.  Seems, our good friends were going on this cruise in a "Penthouse" deck 10 and really wanted us to join.  It is my opinion, going with good friends is lots more fun then going just a couple.  Just an opinion.  On to my question.  I booked a "Penthouse" suite also.  I am flirting with the idea of upgrading to either a Oceania or Vista Suite to make it party central.  The up charge is substantial.  This will be our first cruise on Oceania and at the true Premium Level.  Our last cruise was the Celebrity Equinox and we had a Celebrity Suite.  Suite was good but the lack of service and food quality (except for the suites only dinning) was very disappointing.

Any and all comments would be appreciated.

I'm not sure what you mean by "party central".  Certainly if you want to entertain others -- such as cocktail parties -- there is much more room in the top suites.  In our opinion, dinner for more than 2 while possible gets a bit crowded.  The dining table they provide will seat four but there won't be a lot of room.  We had a cocktail party for 8 in an OC a couple of years ago and it worked out very well.  The butler brought in the drinks and hors d'oeuvres.  Some people have said they've had much larger parties in these suites but we haven 't done so.

You can view the different cabins  size  @

The colour scheme may have changed  I am not sure  but it give you an idea

The VS  are at the front so if you have a problem with the motion of the Ocean may not be good  plus  the wind  when underway

I will also recommend OC (Oceania Suite). We had plenty of room for entertaining  and had food with another couple, and snacks/drinks with 2 couples very comfortably

We love to do a crossing in a OC since we will spend a lot of time on the ship.  On a port intensive trip a PH is enough for us.  The price difference is not worth it for us since we are off the ship most days.  But an OC is great so you should go for it if you can.

We were in a deck 11 aft Oceania Suite on the Marina.  The suite itself is a little smaller than the Oceania Suite on deck 12, But the wrap around deck was a big plus for us.  We entertained another couple or two in the suite on several occasions and there was plenty of room.  The media room is quite small - just a love seat, end tables, and a coffee table.  I did enjoy it for watching television while my husband napped.  There is not a television in the living room.  We enjoyed it so much that we are in the same aft Oceania Suite next month for New England.

I'm with you in that I prefer the aft OCs (Deck 11) to those on Deck 12.  Yes, the room is a little smaller but the veranda is what I love.  The media room we ignore.

I do prefer the layout of the Vistas since I prefer the big TV in the living room, but I can live without it.  There's always the TV in the bedroom ...

But another plus of the aft OCs is the view of the seas behind you ...

I would like to thank everyone for your input.  That view picture was awesome.  Because I asked the question, I want to respond.  For the difference in price which is over $7,000.00, I have decided for this cruise to stay in the Penthouse.  If, prior to sailing a upgrade (at a lower cost) is offered, I will be tempted because of the great comments on this tread.  If not, my hopes are that our cruising partners and I will make our cruise super fun for everyone we meet.  That is really what makes a cruise. GREAT people wanting a GREAT time. Cruise well.

That was taken while we were leaving Kotor in May 2018.

If you haven't been there, this is a wonderful place to visit.  So is Split, Dubrovnik and etc!

On our last 24 day cruise on HAL which we have done 4 times to The Med we walked all those steps to the top 🙄!! All the other times I just watched LOL!!!

Had to say that because now anyone says Dubrovnik that pops in my mind LOL.

I love a Aft cabin especially if it is a wrap around !!!

We actually did an escorted land tour of Albania, Montenegro, Croatia and Slovenia.  We'd done a few over the years and that may be our last one.  Not enough free time.  Cruising is looking much better.

But I can be torn between the view going IN and the view going OUT.  Unfortunately we can't book a Vista on one end and the OC on the other ...

Now CC has interpolated Clo's comment with our conversation ... nbot sure how this will work out when I hit submit!

love Dubrovnik!!

It was so insanely crowded that I wouldn't go back if I were paid 😞  And a lot of it is due to cruise ships.  UNESCO has threatened to revoke their heritage status.

Okay, Clo, back to YOUR comment!

We did a self-drive of Yugoslavia when it was Yugoslavia back in the summer of 1977.  That's when we spent time in Dubrovnik and Split, having driven down from Pula as far as Dubrovnik.  It was a wonderful trip.  Back then we could rent a room in a private home on the Adriatic for $10/night which included breakfast ...

I hear you Cath!!! Last time I was  in Dubrovnik  we walked from the pier we were at into the town! Loved it but as you said it is sooo crowded! In Kotor where Mura was showing the picture that is where we walked soo far up to the top where all those stairs are!

So when I think of Dubrovnik I think of Kotor!!

I'm almost positive that this was taken in Kotor  🙂 Such a sweet guy.  Spoke quite decent English and was there with a couple of friends having food and wine/beer (just can't remember)  He wrote down his name and phone # in case we had any problems.  Oh, and he bought us this dessert 🙂  That's why we like to get away from the tourist when we travel!

You could always ask for  one of the aft  PH  on deck 7   then you would have a larger deck for  entertaining 😉
