That's it ive decided after reading every post on how to get from FLL to Miami hotel

I'm taking LYFT. I don't see any reason to spend my vacation trying to save a dime and have all the headaches

of finding a train or renting a car and then where to drop off said car and where to get off the train and wait for a shuttle.

So if your going from FLL to MIAMI the day before a cruise TAKE UBER OR LYFT and be done with it

Just saying

Have you actually done it? Perhaps you should mention how it went AFTER you have experienced, which would comply with Cruise Critic policies.

I agree.

 

We are flying out of Miami in a couple of weeks to go to France and even though Tri Rail is a short distance away and Brightline is closer, we decided to Uber.

 

That $20 I'm saving isn't worth the aggravation especially sitting in the heat waiting for the train in the clothes I'm wearing on the plane.

Wow my husband and I have been doing the same thing and I think we are doing the same as you...going with either Uber or Lyft and literally made this decision right before I read your post.  I tried to book SAS and because our plane doesn't land until 3:27 p.m. they won't pick us up at the airport.  We were told they don't pick up after 3:00!!!!!  WHAT?????  I guess they have their reasons but I was kind of shocked to learn this.

The shuttles run when there are large numbers of passengers needing transportation. The later in the day the harder to fill the van and make a profit.  Either stay near FLL and shuttle to POM in the morning or use Uber or Lyft.  Your call!

We're in the same position as you!  Our flight is scheduled to arrive in FLL at 2:55 pm.  I called to see if we could still hire SAS.  The gentleman on the phone explained to me that they do not service the airport after 3:00 pm because they provide transportation for school children in the afternoon.

There really should be a Miami/FTL sticky post. 

 

Hotels and How to Get To: 

 

You are 100% right and I hope others find this post. FLL to Miami just take an Uber/Lyft. Any other means of transportation (unless you have a huge group that needs a van) makes 0 sense.

Judged by the hordes of people at FLL lining up for the Carnival bus to PortMiami (at $32 pp!!!), your message is clearly not getting out!

I think on many of the forums, they ask that you do not suggest tours, hotels, restaurants unless you have actually personally experienced them which is a good policy.

 

Every once in a blue moon we will get a new poster on here that has booked, but not stayed in the Ramada Dump Motel in Gang War, Miami for $67 in February.  Not only will it be a horrible hotel but parts of Miami are actually dangerous.

I DID it! 

 

FLL to MIA direction, late flight arrival sometime after dark.  First tried UBER since I had a first time user coupon that would have made the cost something like $10.  I got a driver response that the wait would be something like 2 hours!?  Uh..no.  That would be enough time to pick up and return at least one person before me and meant only one driver working?  I think it was around 9pm.

 

Cancelled.  Or attempted to. AND called and left msg on driver.  He ignored and tried to run the card anyway.  First and LAST UBER!

 

Requested a Lyft ... 5 mins away. No problem finding & picking up, friendly young lady, nice clean vehicle that was obviously HERS and not some fleet car with taxi drivers hired to run the routes for someone else. Spoke ENGLISH!  Always a plus in Miami. (Had that issue show up on return from cruise later, same trip..problem finding/understanding our location pickup).  Pleasant 30ish minute ride.  I can't remember the cost, but I think it was somewhere in the $35 range?   This was my first Lyft ride ever, too. Cool. That was easy!

 

Much like a taxi, the experience depends on the integrity of the driver you are assigned.

 

MIA to FLL return:

I would not do the Lyft on return from port any more.  Just too much confusion.  We were even first off (MSC Butler escort) and not many people yet. Easily seen... we could actually see the driver and he stayed in the outer lane and never even TRIED to get to the curb over EMPTY inner lanes?! So we called. I suppose if the driver had been more familiar with the port and could speak/understand(read traffic signs?) the official language... well, you never know.  In this event, taxi would have been much less stress and worth paying double.

Uber and Lyft work exactly the same, your Lyft driver almost certainly drives Uber, too. I wouldnt "first and last time" Uber over that experience. It could have been the same with Lyft and it's very rare. You should have canceled the driver, reported them via the app, then requested another.  Just an FYI as you aren't familiar with these apps.

Having never used Lyft or Uber to/from a cruise port, I'm wondering how this works.  I've used Uber in downtown Atlanta a few times, but that was it, and the drivers almost always had a hard time communicating / understanding location for pickup.  I'm wondering how it works at the cruise terminal where there are literally thousands of people trying to get rides. . .   How does the driver find you in that sea of people w/ suitcases?

Once you request your ride, you can leave notes. I always leave a note such as "standing by the pole, wearing a red shirt with white baseball cap, 4 of us, 2 kids." - Never had a problem at any airport or cruise port.

We are back !!!

Well let me say Uber was the way we did it and it was ALSOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Got our luggage made the call,  waited 5 min picked up, 40min later setting in front of our hotel 47$ with tip

didn't touch luggage after baggage claim

have ridden the tri rail before and it is cheaper by far but luggage is a mess and a 90min + ride not so nice. then had to get to hotel,

would do it again in a heart break

Had a great Cruise also

Ubered back to FLL from port of Miami 35 min ride 49$ with tip.

 

no shared rides, no trains, no shuttles, no headaches
