Smoking policy on Brilliance of the Sea, has it changed?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I wanted to know if the smoking policy on the Brilliance of the Sea has changed since last year? I know many people have said it is very smoky on the ship because of people in the casino smoking and that there is a chimney type effect happening where it goes to many places on the ship. I would love to take a Canada/New England cruise out of Boston on the Brilliance of the Sea because I live in the suburbs of Boston. It would be so easy not to have to fly anywhere. The problem is I have a bad asthma allergy to smoke. I can't find any other cruises on RCCL that are out of New Jersey or Baltimore that are only 7 nights long.  I was hoping maybe they changed the casino smoking and the smoky effect it had is now gone. Any help would be appreciated.

I am sensitive to cigarette smoke and simply learned to find walking routes that didn't involve going through the casino.  In the pub on the right side a few tables closest to the casino were smokey but the rest of the pub didn't suffer from it.

On the pool deck simply walk on the non-smoking side.

Brilliance was no different than any other ship in that regards - avoid the casino like most other ships.  Only Empress has a non-smoking casino at this point.

The one issue on Brilliance is the casino entrance by the elevators on Deck 6.  There was a guy smoking, sitting at a slot machine reading a book.  His smoke drafted into the entire area of the elevators.  I complained to the casino attendant but to no avail.  He couldn't have care less.

On Anthem they at least moved the smoking area away from the entrance through the Music Hall.  🍷

No changes in policy, the casino is still the defacto smoking lounge, open 24 hours for smoking.

Why limit to RCCL?  NCL has a sailing out of NY that is 7 days, on a ship with an enclosed smoking section in the casino - the Bliss.

On Oasis class, smoking is only allowed on the port side of the casino and is enforced.

We've also noticed fewer and fewer smokers in the casinos over the years. Hoping RCL makes the decision to ban smoking throughout the fleet.

Just did a quick search out of Cape Liberty and on May,  25th there is a seven night doing New England and Canada on Empress. While Empress is not large it does have the distinction of being the one ship (as of now, although I remember seeing a question about Ovation) in North America not to allow smoking in the casino.

I am sure there are other sailings that meet your seven day want but stopped at the first one.

Thanks for the replies. I just can't take the chance of there being a lot of smoke on the ship because it can put me in the hospital with Asthmatic Bronchitis. Had that happen a few times and do not want it to happen again. I did find a cruise line with sailings out of Boston for 7 nights that was a little bit more in price, but not having to fly to NYC and get a hotel room, pay for transportation and eating in the city makes it less than doing all that. Thanks again for the replies. I appreciate them greatly. 😊
