Luck Struck this time around! Not just the fairy.

Recommended Posts

My 6th cruise on NCL and it came out to be the cheapest cruise fare I've paid.

#1. Booked a guaranteed balcony cabin for the first time with 20% casino discount.

#2.  Used two cruise next deposit.

#3. Got a midship balcony room assigned. Already ahead at this juncture with the casino discount and a midship cabin.

#4.  Noticed a price drop and called NCL. Got bumped up to a Mini-suite. Got assigned a midship mini suite. Jackpot!

#5.  We always pay for thermal suite access. It's $250pp so $500 for both of us..

I bid for a spa suite upgrade for less than $400. I figured I was going to pay for it anyway, saving an extra $100 would be good.

Last night, I was booking excursions and added the two thermal access as well and was going to cancel the bid coz I wanted

to guarantee the spa access. I got sleepy so I said I'll do it the next day and went to sleep. Today, I got an email

that My bid got accepted for the spa mini suite. I did well.  I computed how much it was if I paid for a spa mini-suite

compared to how much I put in.  Spa mini suite for my itinerary was $3300.  I paid less than half.

Hoping it happens to you as well.

We are kind of doing the same thing for our upcoming 9 day Baltic Cruise...moved from a guaranteed balcony to a Haven Spa Suite

Oh man. Congrats!

I'm in a similar situation as you. Booked a sail-away balcony, noticed the price drop and managed to get a free upgrade to a mid-ship mini suite. I bid $100/pp for a spa mini suite. Hopefully, I get some luck with that as well!

As a shareholder do you  not see the irony of this and other posts. This to me is the clearest indication that bookings are and yield are dropping and that NCL as with all cruise lines is starting to face some serious headwinds.

Yes we too got an amazing deal this year - Escape Haven in August with a $450 bid from a balcony cabin  and even ten the haven had room.

Just an alternative view of this thread

Good for the consumer though?! Congrats to the OP. 🙂

I have always thought these 'headwinds' will affect the cruise industry more than ever, given their reliance on megaships and the massive increase in capacity across the industry since the last recession.

Evidently the answer is no - but would it not make more sense to price everything 'sensibly' across the board, rather than charging record high prices for Haven (that no-one books) then accepting a lesser sum for people to upgrade to it?

We are seeing more sensible pricing in the UK, they dropped the compulsory AI a while back and have a free at see option that you pay for on a pick 2 basis even on sailaway(suites get the lot).

If you don't want the perks and happy with GTY you can find decent low rates, if you want the perks they are relatively cheap these prices include the perk gratuities, pick dinners that cover most of the cost, drinks on top.

I think the headwinds are very visible to the board of NCL withy Andy Stuart stepping down..

You comments are incisive with regards to the Haven - I have it from a concierge that on most out of season cruises the Haven a week out can be half full and then full a few days before. I have booked a cruise for November and got Haven for $250 bid from a balcony BD -
