Invite to Captain's table ?

With roughly 250 days on Princess we're still a good ways from a reliable invite to the MTP event.  One cruise on Crown we were looking for a quiet place for a pre-dinner cocktail and we discovered Adagio which we had all to ourselves the first couple of nights.  On the 3rd night the Captain came in around 1830 for a drink at the bar, asked to join us (the only others there).  This pattern repeated every second or third night for the duration of that two-week Med cruise.  He never stayed for more than one, and always had somewhere else to be shortly after, but we throughly enjoyed the minutes he shared with us.

Yes, our youngest is under 18 and has been on more than 25 cruises, admittedly not all on the same line. There’s a youngster on Celebrity who is Zenith (more than 3000 points) in their own right. It’s amazing how quickly the cruises and years fly by 😁.

Not any longer. An officer now chooses the venue as to where the guests will be hosted. I believe that it’s been dropped from the Zenith perks too.

Before my wife and I started cruising my parents went on some cruises and were regularly invited to have drinks or dinner with the captain. (due to their cabin, not number of cruises) Here are some of the invites and a picture, looks like fun.

Island Princess (ex Sea/Island Venture) was with Princess from 1972-1999.

We sailed her several times.

We and one of our friends were invited to a special Captain's cocktail party by one of the senior officers and it wasn't until we got there that we realized it was actually the most traveled cocktail party.  We felt a little funny but then the Captain came over and welcomed us and made sure we had drinks and our buddy, the senior officer came over and sat with us too!  We felt very special!!

The Sea Princess was formerly Sitmar's Fairsea, which I have sailed on.  There was a Captain's table in the dining room, however I was never invited to join.

In the picture with the Captain, my mother is on the Captain's right side holding hands with him. As for the years of the invites, I'd say around mid 80's. Looking at a calendar I see there was a Thursday Dec 11 in 1986 and a Thursday Nov 1 in 1984. So I'll guess those were the years.

Actually, the first Sea Princess (the ship mentioned in this thread) was the Kungsholm of 1966.  She was bought by P&O in 1978 and renamed Sea Princess and served under P&O colors.  (P&O was the parent of Princess from 1974 until 2003 when Carnival bought them both).  For a couple of years in the mid to late 80s, Sea Princess donned the “seawitch” and was operated by Princess. She later returned to P&O and then later was renamed Victoria so the Sea Princess name could be used by the current Sea Princess.

 

Fairsea became Fair Princess in 1988 when Princess bought Sitmar.

Princess has a Captain’s table available occasionally, but he is a Patriot’s fan and it is best not to travel with him during American Football season.  BTW: the rowboat is quite small.

There is no Captain's Table on Princess that I have ever seen in 78 cruises on the line.

Yes you are correct no "official" Captains Table on Princess. But anytime the Captain dines in any restaurant on the ship his table is the Captains Table.  Most of the time you do not see Princess Captains dinning in the Main Dinning room, have seen them in the Buffet restaurant.  So yes no traditional captains tables on Princess Cruises.

The only time I've even see the captain eating with other passengers throughout all our years of cruising Princess was at an most traveled  function.

We'll my sure they wouldn't want someone dressed in simple casually clothing  since the officers are always in their pressed white uniforms. 

It just wouldn't be proper. I'm almost positive we would never have been asked.

first officer is a family friend, and wanted the introduction of my wife and I to the captain, who then invited us to join.
