Not gonna happen.  All cruise lines are cutting back on smoking areas.  If anything, NCL (and other cruise lines) are workout to limit smoking, not find ways to expand smoking on board!

 

You could consider their hefty fines for smoking in non smoking areas (up to getting kicked off the ship) proof of that.

To answer your question yes I would pay extra for a place like the Vibe that you could smoke in. We loved the waterfront on the Breakaway when you could smoke out there. It was a great place to hang out and have a drink and my husband could smoke his cigar and relax.

The Bliss has a large area of smoke free casino.    About 30% of the casino was a glassed area for smokers.   Majority of the casino was smoke free.   It looks like Joy and Encore will be the same.

The smoking casino on the Joy is a lot smaller than the Bliss. That was a dry dock change. That was a big change since it used to be a 2 story open casino, mostly tables, thick with smoke. The Deck 6 (where The Social is) use to be the high limit tables with $5K minimum bets.

You al do realize that at some point sooner or later all cruise on all cruise lines will be 100% smoke free, right?  I'm not saying it is gong to eb any time soon, but it absolutely will happen at some point.  What was tried in the past is of no concern or relevance at all.  The fact is society in general is slowly but surely moving towards being smoke free.  Cruiss ships will be at that point sometime down the road.

Birdie and Sue, I do hope that you are correct that at some point all cruise lines will be 100% smoke free. We were on the JOY a couple of weeks ago and the smoking area was glassed in, and it was so nice not to have smokers in the main part of the casino. However, we did notice that the smoking area had a larger portion of the more popular machines.  For example, there were five "Buffalo" machines in the smoking area and only one Buffalo machine in the non-smoking area.  And, I never saw all five of those machines in the smoking area being used at the same time, while it was very difficult to ever find the Buffalo machine available in the non-smoking section.

I am assuming that most people that are replying to this subject are from North America (USA, Canada and Mexico). However, I’ve got a question. The cruises that are in Europe and Asia do they restrict smoking on their ships in Europe and Asia.  The Europeans and Asian people are notorious smokers. As for me, never smoked a day in my life but the cruise ships keep enough smoke away from me that I have no problem at all on ships.  I did notice that the Carnival ships smell more Smokey than the Norwegian ships.  Can anyone answer my question. TYIA

I don't partake in either and can't stand the smell of cigarette smoke. I generally can't smell vape stuff, but also try to steer clear. 

NCL considers “vaping” the same as smoking cigarettes.  They don’t make a distinction between the two.  The same restrictions apply.

NCL is getting pretty restrictive on their newer ships with regards to smoking areas (or lack thereof).  I suspect as their other ships come in for a refurb/dry dock, that trend will continue with what they’ve done on the Bliss, Joy, Encore, etc.

 

I’m a non-smoker, and have no dog in this hunt.  I’m not a non-smoking zealot, either.  Just someone observing what’s happening, and smoking is being phased out on NCL’s ships, sooner rather than later.

All the cruise lines have cut back on their smoking sections, but I doubt  if any of them will ban them completely. On most lines, not counting smoking lounges, the areas are less than 1% of the ship. Of course the non smoking zealots say that's too much.

 The American lines probably but not the European or Asian lines
