Nieuw Amsterdam Crow's Nest??

We previously sailed on the Amsterdam and spent many evenings in the Crow's Nest Bar.

 

We booked on the Nieuw Amsterdam for Thanksgiving, so I was browsing photos of the ship. Did they turn the Crow's Nest into the Explorations Cafe?  Is there no longer a bar up there???

The Starboard side has the new EXC -- gone is the library.

But there is still plenty of chairs and a bar up there.  The Explanations Cafe shares the bar area.

Do they still have entertainment up there sometimes? Although we enjoyed the quiet evenings chatting with the bartenders & servers, we danced up a storm in there a few times!

As I remember there was no band or dancing when we were on board in the Crows Nest.

Nieuw A's Crow'as Nest as of August 2019 - The "Explanations" Cafe on the starboard side has been removed, is now the shorex counter, and has been combined with the Crow's Nest bar on the port side

Nope.  It’s gone. The CN is a ghost town at night.

Correct, the fake coffee shop is no bar like the Amsterdam has..

The snacks/pastries were pathetic in April when we were on the ship.  Nothing like they used to be.

The selection behind the glass that used to be there when the Explorations Cafe was a full "bar" on the starboard side of the Crow's Nest is gone. On NA, they had some Biscottis where you place your order for coffee (you pick up on the opposite side) one day and a plate of zilch the next day. It ain't what it used to be

Exactly how I remember it from June 2018.  Since that was my first cruise on HAL at 39, they get a clean slate and I'm setting my complaint clock starting NOW.

True.  There's usually 2.  The first is normally at 4 pm and the 2nd varies by ship and itinerary.  Happy hour times are published in the When and Where so you won't miss them.

 

Basically it's buy one drink, get the 2nd for $2.  There is no limit to the price of the drink.

We were on Koningsdam in Fall 2017, they did have a lot of books up there, close to 100, also had take a book, leave a book.  If there were no books there when you were on, I guess it is true that people are taking the books and not returning them and also not leaving other books.

January 2018. OK so more than my sarcastic count of 5. But even 100 books is a pathetic excuse for a library. Look at how they are spread  out to look like they take up the space.

We find the crow's nest on the Nieuw Amsterdam to be just fine.  There is a bar, good seating, great views, an interactive map/ book/library area. Great place to read, chat or drink.

 

There was happy hour there during our cruises as well. There are some games held there from time to time and they are a bit disruptive, but not too bad.

 

There is also coffee there in the morning.

 

We enjoy that space on Nieuw Amsterdam.
