Premium+ Beverage Package

Recommended Posts

I'll start off by saying that DH and I have sailed with X a lot with only the Classic and been content. We currently are booked on Reflection with a great deal from our TA that included all 4 perks. That is the ONLY reason we currently have the Premium package. Yesterday I got an email from X about booking things for our upcoming cruise that featured the Premium+. Out of curiosity, I went into my Cruise Planner to view pricing. The Premium+ is listed there as costing $1 less than the Premium. The Premium+ includes everything from Premium as well as 2 bottles of wine, $50 free casino play, a wine tasting event and if both people in the cabin have Premium+ they have access to the mini bar with daily replenishment. Expecting nothing, I called both my TA and Captains Club as asked if they would swap out the Premium for Premium+ since the advertised cost was $1 per day less per person than what we had. I'm glad I expected nothing, because both told me no, we couldn't swap an "amenity" for a perk. As I said at the outset, we're content with what we have, but it seems like an ill-will move on X's part. Thoughts?

Yes, Premium Plus is only offered for purchase, not as an upgrade or exchange for a perk.  I agree it doesn't make a lot of sense, but X gets to set the rules.  There was a thread about it recently.

From a business perspective it makes good sense to have the Premium+ as a purchase only package.

When we get a beverage package as a perk we are paying a discounted price for it in our cruise fare.  The Premium + package at $67.50  & $13.50 is $81 pd is meant to entice those without a package to purchase one.  So priced minimally below the Premium with added some enhancements makes the price more attractive.

To allow upgrades from Classic would be $7,50 + $1.50 tip so $9 pp day probably wouldn’t cover the cost of the bottle of wine, mini-bar replenishment, wine tasting & casino credit much less the higher limit drinks, wines, etc.

I am really  upset Celebrity will not upgrade bundled perk package holders to the premium plus. After introducing a new drinks level one would think Celebrity would encourage its purchase instead of upsetting frequent cruisers . I think Celebrity is being short sided!

They are encouraging its purchase by adding the extras.  Key word being “purchase”. A booking perk isn’t a full price  purchase.

Would I like to upgrade to the Premium+ for $9 absolutely, but as someone who has run a P & L operation it makes no sense.
