Passport - can I get it stamped here?

Just a quick question about our passports:  if we take them with us on our shore excursion, can we get them stamped?  We had our passports with us on our last cruise (10 years ago) and couldn't get them stamped at either of our two ports of call (Progreso and Cozumel).  In fact, we've just renewed them, and the only time we could get them stamped was after crossing the Rio Grande using the "International Ferry" at Boquillos (del Carmen).

 

It would sure be nice to have some form of memento from the stop.

I've only been there while with Carnival so I can only speak to that port. There was a booth inside the main shopping area that stamped passports for a cash donation.

We will be cruising with Carnival - on the Vista (mid February).

Cash donation, huh?  I wish more governments worked that way.  That could really limit bureaucratic growth in a hurry!

Do you have any idea what is an acceptable size "donation"?

We gave a $5 bill for 3 passports. I have no idea what the going rate is but they did it.

I'll slip them 4 one dollar bills and then judge their reaction.
