Hi,

We are taking our first Seabourn cruise in February. We were thinking of Hiking La Soufriere Volcano, in Guadeloupe.  Has anyone done this excursion from Seabourn?  Can you book from private tour company(this is what we have done in past}? Any suggestions would be great, as we are unsure where the ship will dock or if it is a a tender port.

Hi, in Basse-Terre the ship will dock. As you are likely aware, with a Seabourn excursion they will get you back to the ship, with a private tour your on your own if you miss departure. Your call.

In our experience the more strenuous activities do not attract a lot of Pax, you would get a better idea of the number of people booking the tour on board. If the demographic is younger probably more interest.

There is not much activity on the Guadeloupe forum, but you could try posting there, as well.  We did the volcano hike independently in 2015.  This was at the pier--a group of students studying tourism were giving the tours as part of their education.  Because of this arrangement, they were not supposed to be paid so the only cost was for the transportation.  Unfortunately, there is no way in advance to know if something like this would be offered.  The hike is fairly strenuous but well worth it--quite steep at times, lots of rocky areas.  Just be prepared with rain gear and also be aware that it can be quite chilly at the top.  We were up in the clouds with sprinkling at times and occasionally what felt almost like sleet.  Sadly, the clouds obscured the wonderful view we would have liked.  We did return to the ship with plenty of time to spare.  If your port of call is Basse Terre you should dock right in town.  We were able to pay with USD.
