I suspect RC can only do the same class ship as Grandeur the same as Carnival can only do the Pride or another Spirit class ship due to the size restrictions.  Grandeur is to be leaving though and replaced by Enchantment in 2021

A few years ago the then President of Royal Caribbean said Radiance Class ships would fit.

We have been on the Pride 10 times and truly love the ship and staff. The terminal has easy access and parking ($105/wk) is very reasonable.  The Pride doesn't have all the amenities of the recent ship builds, but has the 2.0 upgrades and Dive-in Movies.  Also, the staff that we have dealt with were top notch, we have had past waitstaff and bar tenders come up to us and talk.  On one of our repeat Pride cruises we had the same head waiter, don't understand how.  The bottom line is, we always have a good time on the Pride and will continue to do so.

What ever you decide have a great cruise.

What has been your experience with the Weather and Seas?  We cruised from NYC once and it was a rough ride thru the Carolinas....

Although I don't agree with the word "lousy", I'm with Charles4515 and I'm 20 MINUTES from the Baltimore port. I love my city, the port is easy, but the ships leave much to be desired IMO. Our next cruise may be Canada/New England and will be from Manhattan, possibly Bayonne. Amtrak is an easy ride to either port. 😎

We have sailed from Cape Liberty and Baltimore about 20 times (almost all cruises were in the first three months of the year; Jan-Feb-Mar.) and prefer it over any other time of the year.

Sure there was an occasional rough day or two but nothing like when we sailed the same route during Hurricane season and during a big storm.

The weather on the first day on board is no problem from either Baltimore or Jersey as it is usually devoted to things inside the ship and by the next day we are a few hundred miles to the South and for us (also upstate New Yorkers) compared to where we live we are already in shorts by the later hours of the afternoon if not earlier.

The same goes for the return trip where our last full day at sea may be chilly, but it does get us re-accustomed to where we live..  LOL

Now if we fly down to Florida or San Juan as we have done many times we spend a day or two of misery in airports or hotels just to avoid a day or two on a ship where we are enjoying our vacation from DAY ONE.

It has been a mixed bag, but mostly good.  Our worst storm was when we sailed from New Orleans.  Sailing from Baltimore we had one cruise that was very cold, but by mid afternoon on the 1st day we were on deck enjoy the sun, we were delayed about 2 - 3 hours returning due to ice in the Chesapeake.  We still had a restful and fun week being away from work!

I've sailed from NY,  NJ and Baltimore and even though I'm closer to NY and NJ, I've come to prefer the Pride from Baltimore.

Easy to get to the port, great parking, and the size of the ship is perfect for me.  There's nothing about it I don't like and I tend to cruise for the ship more than the ports so the Bermuda and Bahama runs are OK for me.  I've been to them many times before.

OH yes, there are repeat cruisers on Pride.  LOL  I've gone 6X in the last 18 months and have met the same people over and over on more than one cruise.    One lady I met goes on the Pride once a month!   (We're casino  people...lol)

I'm going on the Journey's on 1/5/20 and already know a few people who are going that were on the 9/15 cruise this year.  It's nice to see the same faces and reunite on different trips!

Sgttami, What time can a platinum arrive to board the Pride?  This will be our first time being platinum.  TIA.

As soon as the passengers from the previous cruise are off.  Usually around 11:00 as long as there's no delays

Great,but I cannot fly.

We can fly but being only 3 hours from Cape Liberty flying is a last choice.

Flying to a cruise almost always means getting there a day early and sometimes flying home a day after the cruise is over...

The first 24 hours after we leave our house for a flight to Florida is spent in airports, a sardine packed plane, cabs, restaurants, hotels and depending on the hotel, flight and restaurant can cost at least $1,000.

The first 24 hours after we leave our house for a Cape Liberty cruise, aside from a quick 3 hours in the comfort of our car, is spent enjoying our first day on vacation and spend most of it INSIDE the ship with no thoughts of the weather outside. By the next day we are well to the South and almost always in much warmer weather,

We prefer to spend our money ON  the cruise rather than GETTING TO  the cruise.,

The same goes for cruises out of Baltimore which involve a few more hours on the road and maybe a nice brunch along the way.

Huge thank you to you all.  I have a December cruise out of Baltimore and I was looking to see when we could board, being that we are first time Platinum.  All our other cruises have been out of FL or TX with the exception of one out of NY and we have always gotten into port at 6 am and cleared to leave by 8 am.  This being said, I booked an 11 am flight from Baltimore to Albany not realizing that we don't get in until 10 am.

I was able to go to SouthWest site and grab the last 4 seats on a 3:15 flight (their next available).  Thank you all for averting a major disaster to a fun filled vacation.

We did it in August on Oceania. I guess that is sort of NCL....

...

That is sort of like saying a Bentley is sort of VW..

Yes - same parent corporation but very different product.

I suspect, since you feel that Carnival was “not a good fit”, that you would be more uncomfortable on NCL.

Just a heads-up: As of Nov. 2021, the Pride will be homeported in Tampa, with the Legend moving to Baltimore. And I you want to cruise on it to Baltimore in style, take the Oct. 31, 2021,  trans-Atlantic sailing from Barcelona to Baltimore. I will. Just booked one of the six premium balcony cabins, which offers suite size (230 sq ft plus 80 sq ft balcony) for several hundred dollars less than a suite.
