Hello! We are first time cruisers on AQSC. We are sailing on the Empress on 9/20/2020. Will our table size be assigned when we arrive for dinner or do we state our

wishes before we sail? Thanks.

If they do it like they do on the American Queen, your table will be pre-assigned.  If you are traveling with friends, and the reservations are linked, they will likely put you together at a table for 4.  Traveling alone, they will assign you randomly.

We were on American Queen last December. When we booked our TA asked us what size table and the time we wanted. We chose a table for 8 (I think there were only two that size). Interestingly our 6 table mates hadn’t been given a choice and were assigned the table when they boarded.

We were on the Empress in September 2016, and unless it has changed, you are assigned a table when you arrive for mealtime.  The host will ask if you'd like a table for 2 or if you would like to share with others.  The Duchess was the same last year.  On both those trips, there was a large group traveling together, and I believe the groups had some large tables that were reserved especially for them.

On the American Queen, there are quite a few tables for 2, by the windows on each side of the dining room. Breakfast and lunch are open seating, and we always asked to be seated alone, and most of the time our request was granted.  The last two times we have sailed it was with friends, so for dinner we were pre-assigned to a table for 4.  Dinner seating is pre-assigned, but you can always eat at the Front Porch.
