As You Wish Dining Reservation

Recommended Posts

We'll be on the Nieuw Amsterdam for Thanksgiving week and will be in the MDR only for the two gala nights.  If we wanted to dine at 6:30 PM those two evenings, when can we make the reservations?

You can't make reservations during the peak hours, which is usually 6 or 6:15 to 7 or 7:15.

Just off the Veendam where we had "as you like it" reservations for 7pm every night.  Like most things, it likely varies by ship, cruise and who you ask.

We will be on Veendam in the first part of Dec and have the "open dining" confirmed. Is it difficult to get a table for 2 ?

We were on the Veendam this summer with open seating.  We usually could get a table for two if we were there by 6 p.m.  Because it was summer and there were a lot of families on during the peak travel season, it was actually easier to get a 2 top.  A lot will depend upon the time you go to dinner and the number of people wanting a 2 top, especially if you go early or during peak time 6:15-6:30 to 7:15-7:30 p.m.

If you wish to dine during the peak hours, it may be difficult.  If you insist on a 2-top, the maître d' will give you a pager, and you can wait somewhere close by until called.  If you dine earlier, you probably won't have any problem, as we usually dine at 5:30 and never had a problem getting a 2-top.

You can also reserve up to three days in advance.  Good luck.

Thank you for the responses - I do appreciate them. It is our first with Holland and first time an open dining. On all of our previous cruises we dined at the early seating and mostly at 2-top. This time we are on a wait list for the early but confirmed for the open, hope that it will be ok.

Thanks again for your help.

BTW - can I reserve the time before boarding ? If yes how ? I am not very familiar with Holland's reservations.

Can't answer your question, but we'll be on the same cruise!  See you soon!

After you board, the maître d' will be set up near the dining room.  At this point, his job is to deal with passengers who wish to change their dining.  Make certain you arrive early and ask for early fixed.  He may be able to accommodate you.  Even if he can't, asking never hurts.  Good luck with getting your preferred selection.

We were on the Noordam in July for an Alaska cruise. We had Anytime dinning and walked into the MDR between 6:30 and 7:00 every night with no wait for a table. We asked for a table to share and met some very interesting people. If you insist on a table for two you might have to wait but there were plenty of the larger seating tables available. BTW we hate fixed dinning because 5:30 is way too early to eat and 8:00 is way too late. We prefer to begin at the 6:30 to 7:00 time. BTW because of the late sun sets in Alaska we always asked for a table by the window and got accommodated every night and had fantastic views out the stern windows.

We had no problem at all getting a table for 2 every night....dining at 7....(we had reservations for all nights).  Had we come at 6pm, we would have had a long wait.....but at 7, there were many empty tables.  Of course, that will vary by cruise.....and passenger set.  We have been on cruises with many from Spain and the dining room was empty at 6 but you couldn't get in at 9.  Our cruise had many older folks from Florida and they probably could have filled the dining room at 4:30 (early bird special).
