EmmasNana Posted November 5, 2019 #76 Share Posted November 5, 2019 I smell smoke on my balcony nearly every cruise. Nothing is ever done unless the smoker is right next to me. I am just told they will look for evidence, but it doesn't stop.

Has there been revenue lost by the cruise lines not allowing inside smoking at the bars? I have no reason to doubt you, but... Post #20 of this thread. I don't understand this comment. How is Royal going about others for smokers any more than they are going above others by providing FlowRiders and Rock Climbing Wall or loyalty lounges? 95% of the ship is already dedicated non-smoking while the percentage of population that smokes is about 15%. If anything, they should do more for smokers, such as a dedicated indoor smoking lounge that would allow people to smoke in places other than the casino. Then maybe the casino could be made smoke-free. I'd think that would make you happy. 48 minutes ago, davekathy said: IMO most smokers don't want to be around non smokers. Speaking from personal experience. Obviously, not knowing your experiences and I don't expect you to share personal information, but I'd summarize it's a case of a few bad apples ruining it for the rest. Sorry to hear that. The smokers in my family are nothing but extremely courtous to non-smokers.....sometimes too much.

They would make even more money if they allowed smoking. This is incorrect, casinos on cruise ships out of Australia would not make more money if they allowed smoking. I posted #20. On face value Royal conceived it as a 30% loss of revenue and probably was. It was an experiment. The smokers did not know the cruise they had booked would prohibit smoking on the days they were on. They protested for sure. The Casino was nice and not nearly as full as usual and great to play. I spoke to many non smokers who were unaware of the smoking prohibition. Most said if they had known that, they would have played. I cruise with MANY NON SMOKERS who say they would play if smoking was PROHIBITED. Edited November 5, 2019 by Milwaukee Eight

If you want a non-smoking casino, sail Celebrity. if you smoke or don't mind sharing a casino with smokers, sail Royal. 12 minutes ago, Milwaukee Eight said: I cruise with MANY NON SMOKERS who say they would play if smoking was PROHIBITED. I disagree Vehemently. At least outside the STENCH and smell of smoke is less likely on ones person. It’s disgusting to us when a smoker comes out of the Casino and Reeks of smoke and hops on the elevator we are on. I don’t believe it’s possible to rid the air of smoke in an indoor area without invading a NON Smokers space. In my opinion

Similar to the washy-washy stations outside WJ, the lounge would need to provide something like this. Seems to work most of the time. Not sure if the below link will cause the post to be deleted. https://www.amazon.com/Smoke-Blaster-Natural-Cigarette-Clothing/dp/B01N1X2RXX There are many similar products whose effectiveness ranges widely. Not all ships or cruise lines provide smokers what you posted the Anthem does. I respectfully disagree with you that RC should do more for smokers. IMO RC should take Celebrity's lead. I wonder why the RCCL bean counters aren't concerned with Celebrity losing casino dollars based on post #20. We cruise with both RC and Celebrity. For us their smoking policies have nothing to do why we cruise with either of them. The many good reasons out weigh the very few bad reasons. Not all non smokers are courteous of smokers like not all smokers are not courteous of non smokers. It goes both ways. The tables would be less than 2 feet away from the smoking tables. Even my 2+ pack-a-day parents wouldn't light up even though they were allowed at the time. They couldn't understand how someone couldn't wait to finish their meal before lighting up. Yup, I think that was where most of it came from. Once they finished, they lingered over coffee after dinner and lit them up. Was not conducive to turning tables when they did that either. 😉

Agree...as usual my DS friend. 🙂 It's like the many that swore off RCI when they eliminated smoking from balconies. They insisted they would never sail with Royal again...and then it was obvious that many came back (and we all know of one well known reviewer that did that ....Choo-Choo! 😉 ). So many new and larger ships coming on board, and none of them are sailing empty. I think the casinos would eventually gain more customers, IMHO. I know the smoke keeps me out of there...but that is probably a good thing. $$$ 😄
BopRN Posted November 7, 2019 #97 Share Posted November 7, 2019 I always bring a medical mask with me because there are people who will smoke on the balcony at night when no one can see them. My DH laughs at me but I refuse to let some jerk ruin my balcony time. Can't stand the stink. And when the ship is sailing, the backwind often carries the smoke. We have also reported smokers that we could see and security was there quickly.
