Transportation from Sydney Airport to Cruise Passenger Terminal

What is the best transportation option for getting from the airport to the OPT?  We would not be interested in the train. What is the approximate taxi fare?  Has anyone used Bon Voyage Shuttles?

Taxi round $50 to 60, depends on time of day and traffic, someone recently posted that it cost them $100, must have been a real bd traffic day

Official metered taxis or Uber are usually the way to go if you're schlepping a shed-load of bags. Shuttles get a particularly bad rap from from the Sydney-siders on the Trip Advisor forum and there's a thread or two on what to do if you think you've been ripped-off by a cab...

MrsWaldo can you explain more?  In the US usually Saturday mornings means less traffic, therefore lower fares.  Are you saying Saturdays in Sydney are more expensive? And the same for school holidays, again usually that equates with less traffic and lower fares.  Thanks.

Traffic seems to worse on weekends, I think because everyone uses the excellent public transport through the week and drive their car on the weekend.

 I love my car but the train is the only way to go.

I think it’s because of a weekday millions are in their offices, on a weekend they are out shopping and socialising

The airport is in an area not well serviced by public transport other than the terminals.  It's not far from the beaches.

 

Early am sees large bunches of cyclists using the roads near the airport as part of regular rides.  This reduces multi lane traffic by 1.

 

Curfew is another added factor as many flights arrive simultaneously .

Traffic will normally be a bit lighter on a Sunday Morn8ng, 7nless there is some special event on, in which case it can be bedlam and involve road closures

Thanks, Gut. After further reading, I think the train will be our best option from airport to city. I see that there's a route to Circular Quay station but couldn't tell whether this involves a transfer from Central station. I guess it will all become clear eventually.

No transfer at central,strait though.

If you’re going from circular quay to the airport there’s 2 platforms one goes directly to the airport.

Last weekend there were no trains to CQ due to track work.  It was a bus change at central which doesn't work well if you have luggage.

 

Sometimes on weekends the trains will only run in one direction around city circle through CQ and it will require a change at Central.

 

If it's business as usual a good tip for getting on with luggage is head to either end of the train.. just past where the wall comes in, Usually plenty of room in those carriages for bags.

The light rail is running next weekend,how would the transfer be for that at central?

The airport train platform is on the east side so where’s the light rail?

That's a good point about light rail.  I completing forgot about it.  Last weekend Miss W was heading home from a conference at Manly and the lack of trains at CQ caused huge issues.

 

If we are talking next weekend to use it ... it's free so certainly not a good choice.

 

There is a stop just outside in Chalmers St which would be the one to use.  Assuming you use the lift then you'd come around and turn right.   There is an accessible ramp gate there too.

you could walk a couple hundred meters and catch the light rail on your journey from the airport to circular quay.

Nah,.....  cos the tracks there only go back to the airport or into city circle.

Don't try tomorrow though cos I'm planning on coming in to shop and last thing i need is a city rail meltdown 😉
