Rare scubacruiserx2 Posted January 14, 2020 Author #379 Share Posted January 14, 2020 Chris took us next to a Croft house https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Croft_(land) The right door held farm implements for cutting peat And to the left was a living area with a peat fire smoldering . It smell like the muck fires that we sometimes got in the Spring . There was also a Box bed Outside was a pile of peat And Chris met his neighbor who was working there

Rare MicCanberra Posted January 14, 2020 #382 Share Posted January 14, 2020 That peat smoke really does nothing for your health but it does keep the bugs out of the house.

I must be on a first name basis with bugs because the peat smoke bugged me . It must have been a hard existence for the folks who lived in those types of houses . It reminded me of my grandparents farm . My mom used to pick cotton by hand when she was a girl and the farm always had work mostly done by her and her brothers and sisters during the Depression . Rare scubacruiserx2 Posted January 14, 2020 Author #385 Share Posted January 14, 2020 We walked around the car park and down to the beach Chris told us that he drove some people around when Amazing Race was filmed here ( Episode 3 Season 25 ) . This is one of our favorite shows , both to see places where we have been and places we may like to go to . Here's a spoiler link or better , you can watch it on TV or online . I don't think that it was shown on TV but he said that they slept in tents on this beach .

My wife pulled up some of long grass and fed a foal - too cute but I missed the photo .
Nitemare Posted January 15, 2020 #388 Share Posted January 15, 2020 Are the Shetlands bigger or smaller than the Icelandic horses? (and how can I correspond with you directly to discuss Iceland and Boston?)

Rare scubacruiserx2 Posted January 15, 2020 Author #398 Share Posted January 15, 2020 We heard our first pipes as soon as we were off the ship and they wouldn't be the last We had a great aft view of the Zuiderdam The dock's gift shop Matthew was waiting for us at the street Our first stop was a lookout beside the road where we saw some Scotch Brooms . We saw a lot of these yellow flowers in Chile a few months ago . It is considered to be an invasive species by some . https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cytisus_scoparius The land was fairly clear of trees near the road
Rare scubacruiserx2 Posted January 15, 2020 Author #399 Share Posted January 15, 2020 It was really nice to have few people here It's a short walk on a ramp down to the falls The overlook It was sure nice to see trees again since Iceland has so few Not as dramatic or as crowded as Iceland's waterfalls , we found this one to be very relaxing We saw these Foxglove flowers in Chile also . Very pretty to look at but they produce the heart drug Digitalis .
