Uber/Lyft from airport

New Orleans opened a brand new terminal building this week. So far, the reviews have been excellent, but there have been some problems with the ride-sharing services.

In the past, Uber and Lyft fares have been close to those charged by cabs, but on some days this week they have been nearly double their usual rates.

Until this gets sorted out, a cab ride may be substantially less that what the ride-sharing services cost.

Just read in the local news that Uber/Lyft prices have gone back to prices similar to taxis. ($40.00 for 2 from the airport to downtown). They did mention that Uber/Lift have surge pricing so as demand increases, so will their price. Taxis cannot do surge pricing. The lines for both are still incredibly long though.

Was there last week-- MSY to the Ritz Carlton was $36.53 right in line with taxis. We're in New Orleans several times a year and find that the UberXs are vastly higher quality cars than the very tired fleet of taxis the city has (last taxi we took there was a Chevy Suburban that was well over 15 years old- awful).

Uber has done away with the traditional surge pricing which everyone got all tied up about-- it was essentially a percentage uptick of a base fare. Now the estimate you get when you open the app is the price you pay-- if its not what you want open up Lyft and see if its better.
