Walk From Port Everglades Terminal 2?

DH & I will be boarding Sky Princess on Dec. 1 at a late (delayed) boarding time in the evening.  We would like to arrive earlier in the day, park the car in the parking facility for terminals 1 & 2, and then walk over to a nearby (10 mins walk) area of Fort Lauderdale with a Starbucks and restaurants (for coffee and/or dinner) without having checked on to the ship which does not start boarding until 5pm.

Does anyone know if we will be permitted to walk out of the Port Everglades parking area, into town, and walk back, or is this not permitted due to port security concerns? We will have our Boarding Passes and ID with us (but no room card or medallian since we have not yet boarded).

So you park your car in cruise port parking lot; leave your bags in the car and then leave the port.  If this is the case; then I would assume two things.  First it would be ok if the bags are locked in the car and no one has access to them.  Second, like airlines; the security requirements would be to not let bags out of your sight until they are checked in with porters at the port.  Are you worried about not getting a parking spot if you show up at say 3pm?

What if you arrive at the ship around 1030, drop off your luggage?  Can a person/group walk out to say the Walgreens or other stores nearby to get forgotten or desired items.  If so what documentation would be needed to get back into the terminal area? This would be before checking into the ship.

There's no documentation necessary to get back to terminal 2 or leave for that matter. They only look at you passport or other info. after entering the terminal & boarding the ship.

You can park in the Terminal 2 garage starting around 9 AM (they don't actually check) but the porters start taking luggage on the ground floor around 10 on the ramp leading up to the parking areas.  If you arrive after 10 I would drop my luggage rather than hauling it from the car later.  As others have said the port security has been moved farther south, so nobody will know or care if you walk in and out.  Walgreens is about a 5 minute walk, Harbor Shops (Publix, Total Wine, restaurants) is about 15 minutes.  Too bad you can't go directly there, but you have to cut out to 17th to avoid the oil tank farm.

Every time we have boarded following an inspection the delay was minimal (like 11:30 instead of 11), but with this being the first cruise in the US could take longer.  If I had to guess, the porters are going to be there at the normal time since people will be getting off the ship after the TA even if boarding is delayed.

Check your bags first.  Make sure you are using pier 2.  Princess also uses pier 18 or 19 and that is over 2 miles from the stores.

If you had to go through port security (e.g. if going to pier 18 or 19) - whether you are walking or driving, all you need to show is your ID.
