Hi all. We set sail on our 1st cruise this Friday on the Escape. What do we need to know for the 1st day? Is there a Sailaway party? Where is the best place to be as we leave dock?

Most importantly, have fun and relax! You’ll get a daily newsletter type thing that will give details of parties including sail away.

For a relaxing start I’d recommend a main dining room for lunch over the buffet day 1 craziness.

The Escape is a great ship. Enjoy!

Welcome to CC - bundle up in layers for Friday's sailaway - 4 p.m. as listed time leaving from the pier.  There will be a mandatory life boat/safety drill (report to your designated "Muster Station" noted on your Guest Key Card - see the back of your stateroom for your Station & primary route to get there - usually 30 minutes before sailing.  You should get or look for Day 1's Freestyle Daily & listen to announcement about the SailAway Party - weather permitting, it is held on the Pool Deck in the outdoors, or moved indoor to the Atrium Lobby.

Best place to be, is on the top deck for some - while others, the Waterfront or Promenade Deck (Deck 8) is popular & often less crowded - Starboard side for the NJ/Hudson and Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island - 15 minutes afte backing out of Pier 88.  Port side next for the Manhattan skyine, Freedom Tower & Governor's Island/Bklyn's waterfront ... look up as the ship sail under the VZ Bridge to head out to sea - about 1 hour after leaving the pier.  Land-based cellular signal will begin to fade shortly once the ship clear the bridge & switch over to roaming/satellite signal, turn the i/smartphone on Airplane mode to avoid huge data charges.

Ship will be going faster than usual, probably doing 20+ knots to get there in 2 days, overnight & then rush back - always beware of and be prepared if prone to motion sickness.  Bon Voyage !

When you check-in, get a Welcome Aboard sheet with a ship's map on it.

Use the Welcome Aboard flyer to find the location of Entertainment reservations (usually the Escape Theater, Deck 7, Forward, Starboard Theater entrance,,, but they sometimes use the Supper Club (Deck 6)). Go and book your comedy shows (early shows family oriented, late show 18+), complimentary escape rooms, complimentary dinner shows in the Supper Club, Canvas by U painting (extra charge), Escape Cabaret dinner show (extra charge). Comedy shows are done in a small venue and sell out fast as to escape room sessions.

If you have a conflict with dining reservations, go to Headliners (Deck 6 midship) to fix your dining.

Then go to Taste or Savor (Deck 6) Main Dining Room for a lovely embarkation day lunch.

it is not a real escape room. From what i read in past reviews, it is held in the supper club and you work in groups to solve puzzles

Best tip I can give is to steer clear of the buffet when you board, head to the Taste or Savor for a nice sit down meal.

Is there a reason not to go to O'Sheehan's or any of the other included restaurants?

O'Sheehan's will be an option, no reason to not go there if you prefer. The lunch menus will be the same in MDR and O'Sheehan's every day. The MDR has more attentive service but O'Sheehan's may be faster to get in and out if you are in a hurry.
