Cruise fare for 10 month old

Would the price be the same for a 10 month old be the same as the child rate.  Thanks

Unless there is a "kids sail free" promo or the like, 3rd, 4th passenger in a room etc pay the same regardless of age.

Fares are based on the following:

First person = double price

First and Second per stateroom = main price

Third and Fourth per stateroom = lower price than fist and second.

 

Age does not matter.  Each person pays an equal share of fuel and payroll. 

 

Sometimes Kids sail free, but not really.  They raise the price of first and second to cover 3rd and 4th.

Though not always. At times per person 3/4 can be higher then 1/2. Many get 2nd Cabin then this happens. At least not bad was 20-30yrs ago when 3/4 could be 50% higher then 1/2... That being said Kids Sail Free is usually a good sale, not fake raised price. At times might seem that way as only certain Cat Cabins hold 3/4 passengers

Now that you have read all of the other replies, here is mine.

As others have said; it's not like when you go to a local venue at adults are $10, children are $5 and 3 and under are free. They don't price based on age, just based on the number of people in a cabin. So two adults in a cabin will be the same price as an adult and a child in a cabin. The only reason children look cheaper is because people are often putting more than 2 people in a cabin and often the 3rd and 4th person rates are discounted. So you could also put 4 adults in the cabin and it would be the same price as putting two adults and two children in the cabin. There's no discount for a 10 month old. However, you will want to check what the minimum age is for sailing, not sure about that, but there is one.

Wait until there is a kids sail free...it is honestly the only true sale that Royal gives...we get great prices by booking a year out in advance with kids sail free!

People often think it should be cheaper for babies because "they don't eat much" so think it costs the cruise line less for them to be onboard.  But there are reasons it's generally the same price.  While they may eat less, they also don't contribute much to onboard spending...drinks, casino, specialty restaurants, arcade, spa etc.  Furthermore, the cruise has a limit of the total number of souls that can be onboard for lifeboat purposes.  So just because a baby doesn't eat much, can easily fit into a regular 2 person cabin with their parents, etc. they still count toward the total number of souls on board, thus displacing another adult.  And if it was free or cheaper for babies/kids to cruise, there would be a lot more of them onboard which means a lot fewer people spending money onboard.

age is never a factor in determining cost.   Berths  1-2 in the same cabin will be charged  the same rate( unless there is a sale going on  with a discount on the second berth)_ and Berths 3 and up will pay a (usually) discounted rate  off of that.  could be a big discount or could be a very small one.   and rarely, they are actually charged more.

Not necessarily. We booked 3 Crown Lofts in 2017.  For my "retirement cruise" I took both sons and their families.  We had 6 adults and 5 kids under 12.  I booked via an Interline Discount as it was a VERY good discount!  Then a Kids Sail Free promotion came out. I re-booked the adults at the non-Interline rate and did the Kids Sail Free, I saved over $2000! So I wouldn't actually generalize quite so much. You really have to check the bottom line, like with all sales.

There is no such thing as a child rate. All passengers, regardless of age, pay the same rate - and are expected to pay the same gratuity as well.

The 12 night southern Carib cruises out of Baltimore are 3 sea days down and 3 sea days back.

Also, tips are the same whether 6 months or 60. We have sailed with young children (we start our kids at 6 months). A lot of people are shocked that they charge gratuities for babies. Let me say, they create the biggest mess, so please don't remove the tips for a 10M old. We actually give more to our room attendant and wait staff because of it (and we are mindful to always clean up after ourselves).

It seems like a good question. Then it becomes what about my 18 month old? My 3 year old? My 7 year old? This child should be cheaper for X reason.

The baby (actually you can do this with any child under 3 YO) will be the same price as guests 3 and 4, not cheaper.

 

Also, if you are family of 3 and your child is under 3 YO  you can book a double occupancy cabin and have the child added at the rate for guests 3 and 4.  This will save money because cabins with double occupancy usually have a cheaper rate for guests 1 and 2.

But then, automatic tips are for suckers anyway, so we removed it for everyone and just handed out cash.

 

FYI: they told us not to bring a crib (pack and play) because they'd provide one, and it turned out to be in poor shape, with a broken bottom.  They also said they'd provide the linens, and that was a lie.

So I recommend you bring your own, and for sure your own fitted crib sheets.

 

 Yes, I am right there with you adding the 3rd kid if under 4 in a room that usually sleeps 4....We got an unbelievable fare on the last navigator sailing in April to ABC...we added our 2 almost three year old to our quad room and he just slept in bed for with us...yes it was a tight squeeze for 5 of us in an interior..but hey a day on a cruise is better than any day at home!!

 

We have use the pack and play before on other sailings and they do provide linen per se but it is honestly just a regular flat sheet folded..so yes we brought our own pack and play sheets.  The Family Ocean Views are great for larger families...and we always save a bundle with KSF.

as many others have stated,  this is misinformation.  

I watch prices like a hawk and KSF is not a smoke and mirrors sale.  We save thousands with KSF.

 

RCI does not have age based pricing.  Disney does, and as far as I know is the only mainstream cruise line to have age based pricing.  NCL does not charge grats for a baby the last time I looked.   Those are the only age differences I am aware of in cruise lines but there could be others.

I agree.  I think where part of the belief that prices are raised is that people first search for a cabin for 2 guests and see the price and then assume that they should just add taxes and that would be the new price.  Unfortunately it's not as cabins that hold more than 3 are a different category and prices for guest 1 and 2 are different than for a cabin that holds 2 guests which leads to a higher price than expected.
