NS - Disembarking in Port Everglades - can I chill

Recommended Posts

Forgive me for not finding an answer to something that has probably been answered a dozen times.  My flight does not leave FLL until 4:pm.  What is the latest time we will have to disembark?  I am not sure how to fill the time up that day.

We discovered HA and Nieuw Statendam  last February and LOVED the cruise line.  I am excited to take family members along this time. I am a convert and HA people are my people!

More than likely you will be asked to vacate your cabin by 9 am or so.  You may then have to wait in a common are for your scheduled disembarking time for a hour depending on port authority staffing and how the line moves.  Why not do a post cruise excursion?  HA offers a couple of those taking you direct to the airport afterwards or take an uber/lyft to a restaurant or beach.

A little clarification here. HAL never makes you leave your cabin until you leave the ship, so there isn't a time you must leave your cabin by. Unlike many other cruise lines.

They will be doing last call for disembarking by 9:30. There is a process to "clear the ship" so the next steps in turning the ship around for the next passengers can be started.

Post cruise excursions are good ideas. There are also discussions on the Florida Departures board for things you can do on your own.

Recommend a ships excursion like the OP suggested & then they take you to the airport

Quoting the above for emphasis as the 2nd post was incorrect.

The excursions are a good idea.  An alternative is to have your luggage picked up by Luggage Direct if you decide to rent a car and/or do a private tour.  Pay attention to the forms which come to your room as you will need to fill it out and have it handed in by a certain deadline.  Have a wonderful cruise!

Also, typically the latest they want you to chill and linger is 10 - 10:30 am, or they'll start paging you.

I've been paged many, many times long before 10:00-10:30 (not my doing). Final call is generally around 9:30-9:45. Then there are two more 'final calls', then they start calling names.
But yes, you can stay in your cabin until your number is called.

HAL wants you OFF their DAM ship so they can complete turnover procedures and let the next passengers on at 11:30.

In 12 HAL cruises, never seen any indication you can stay beyond 10am. As others have mentioned, 9:30 is getting very late.

Huh? The OP didn't suggest an excursion- they asked what to do.

It is very inconsiderate to stay on the ship once the last call announcement is made.  Recently our ship had to be cleared though 75% of the passengers were continuing for the next segment of the cruise.  Some of us went into the terminal to use wi-fi but wanted to get back onboard when possible.  We watched security escort the last couple out, probably 20 - 30 minutes after they had called for all passengers to disembark.  They got a lot of dirty looks.

Probably the same people who don’t show up for the immigration processing.  Usually tends to be a language barrier.

No, these folks were definitely English speakers.  They probably had a late flight and were just trying to stay on as long as possible, inconveniencing everyone waiting to get back onboard.  Guess they thought the rules did not apply to them.

If I'm staying in FLL after the cruise, I sometimes think that I'll loiter on the ship until 9:30 or a bit later. Then I see the stewards working so hard to get ready for the next passengers that I feel guilty and leave before 9:00.

We have always rushed off so I had no idea what happened later.  I totally get the clearing of the ship and have no idea how they get the turn around done so quickly.  We will be counting the minutes to get on the ship for sure. Thank you for all the advise. I do want to splurge on the Luggage Direct. (we missed the paperwork deadline last time) Since some of the post cruise excursions are already sold out, we may just uber out for a long lunch and head to the airport.

Thank you for your suggestions and wonderful advise.  You guys are rock stars.
