Has anyone seen pricing for the new BBQ food? Or; Do we finally accept new pricing model?

I'll third it - I don't gamble but if it's open late it'd be nice to hit that up after a show or some night swimming. I'm a little surprised they also didn't do like a slider option for the sandwiches - 3 slider sized sandwiches (mix and match between the three proteins) with no side. That'd hit the spot for sure. I'll still be interested to see what their sauce lineup would be. In my ideal set-up where you're going for BBQ's greatest hits like that it'd be:

  • Eastern NC Vinegar & Pepper
  • Western NC Tomato
  • Central SC Mustard
  • Memphis
  • Kansas City
  • And...blech...Alabama White

What about Southern Sweet?

Where are they charging for a kids meal?

It does look like from the Lunch and Dinner menus that the Kids Meals at Portside BBQ will be charged as well - $7.99 at lunch (which gets you your choice of Chicken Fingers, Mac & Cheese, or 1/4 BBQ chicken in addition to a side and dessert) and $4.39 at dinner (which gets you the same as lunch but without dessert). I'm not sure if that's correct but that's just what it looks like based off of those menus.

We lived in Huntsville, AL in the late 90's

I avoided the white sauce like the plague for the first few years.

Eventually tried it, and it's really good on chicken. 🐔

We need to go back

I've heard it's really good on poultry which is why I think it might not be a bad addition to the turkey.

Yes they are both included.  $35 per person credit per meal.

So, I could get 2 3-meat meals?  That would be 6 meats, 4 sides and 2 desserts?

That'll hit the spot.  What is the dress code for BBQ on Dress-Your-Best night?

Isn't BBQ served at WJ?

Not that I've ever seen...I don't think I've ever seen pulled pork or Burnt Ends, for instance, at WJ, but I typically don't eat at WJ except for (maybe) embarkation lunch and breakfast on a port day.

I'm not hugely familiar with that and I don't think it's commonly considered among the staple regional sauces. Would you mind telling me more about it?

Typically, here in the South, we don’t have much BBQ vinegar or mustard sauce/cooking. Hickory Sweet is a popular sauce. Lots of honey and molasses based sweet sauce.

I think I would be more upset if a formerly free (included) food venue was changed to for-fee specialty, like Park Cafe or Sorrento's.  As it stands now, it's a new restaurant that never existed before serving food that you previously could not get on a cruise ship so, I can choose to not go to it and won't be missing a thing.

And if it draws people away from the Windjammer or Park Cafe, that's a positive in my book.

I wonder how late the "late night" menu is? I always felt that was one area where Royal was lacking. Other than pizza and finger sandwiches, there is not much to eat for the late night crowd.  I could take a break from the casino and save a ton of money by buying the $8 sammie   😋

Best post of the day!!

I'm still waiting for the announcement that alcoholic beverages are no longer included with your drink package on the private islands. I put the under/over at 18 months.

The pay venues for food don't bother me much because food is not that important to me. I like to eat but I can always find something to satisfy me.

I honestly don't think that's ever going to happen. One of the draws for their new Antigua Beach club

You're welcome.

At any rate, for those curious, here's the Dinner and Late Night Menus as well. For what it's worth, the Late Night Menu is essentially the same as the Lunch Menu.

From my perspective living in BBQ country, $12.95 for two meats, two sides, and a dessert isn't bad. Here in the Triangle, The Pit (featured on a couple Food Network shows) charges $18.99 for 2 meats and 2 sides (no dessert) at dinner and $24.99 for 3 meats and 2 sides (no dessert). Sam Jones BBQ (owned by the family that owns the nationally known Skylight Inn) charges $15.99 for their 2 meat/2 side combo and $17.99 for their 3 meat/2 side combo. Again, dessert is separate.

Can’t really compare like that IMO, or at least you never USED to be able to.  Even high end dining on cruises used to be offset by your cruise fare.  However with the way specialty dining costs are going they are charging similar to full land based prices now anyway.  Part of the reason we won’t justify it.

Am I thinking correctly, is this an additional fee for their deck barbecues near the pool, featuring hot dogs, hamburgers, corn on the cob?

Sorry, but down South we don't consider grilling burger and hot dogs as BBQ.  Why pay more for a burger cooked outside?

Not that anyone cares, but her are my thoughts on Portide BBQ and specialty dining in general.

I'm looking forward to trying Portside when we sail in January

As others have said the pricing is not bad compared to JR for lunch or Chops for dinner

Pulled pork, fries, coleslaw, and I'm guessing banana pudding sound heavenly to me for $9.42

Honestly, we'd probably split one lunch

I'd give dinner a chance, maybe brisket, some ribs, and 2 mac n cheeses😉

As others have said, what's the big deal. It's not like they took something away. Just added choices

I also doubt they will downgrade other venues.

Also, as far as charging for El Loco

That might be a good idea, the lines are really long some times. Just a downside to a really good venue on a really big ship.

It's not a secret, I'm a big fan of the Oasis Class, mainly because of all the venues.

I welcome new ones.

There is no m in sandwich.... we would call it a sarnie...

Correct but with certain accents, sandwich sounds like samwich. Hence, Sammie.

It's the same thing as a sarnie.

Shame on you, you quoted two pictures. Just Kidding....  lol

Don’t forget to mention the 11-11 Beer/Wine for P’s in the SL. I think that was a big draw.

in my opinion.

Slang for Sandwich ..

Downunder, common slang for a sandwich is a sanger. A popular choice of food here is a BBQ'd beef sausage with either tomato sauce or BBQ sauce (with or without BBQ'd onions), wrapped in a slice of bread. This is referred to as a sausage sanger, and this is something that RC should introduce on their ships asap 🙂

You guys have made me change my mind about dinner tonight.

I’m now craving a pork sandwich with lots of mustard based sauce or St Louis ribs with sweet hickory sauce.

We here in Jacksonville Fl get teased about our cuisine being heavy on barbecue, but boy, is it good.

I can’t imagine a cruise ship version being a good substitute.
