havanadaydreaming Posted November 21, 2019 #1 Share Posted November 21, 2019 Just booked a 4 nt cruise on the Sky and was awarded 1030am embarkation. Say what? That's the earliest embarkation time that I can recall. Flight doesn't land in FLL until 945am (I know, same day flights are risky) I don't think we can make it to POM until 11. ha! roger001 Posted November 21, 2019 #2 Share Posted November 21, 2019 Those times aren't enforced. Just trying to spread the arrivals out a bit. Many things involving transportation to the port can affect you arrival time.
Rare www3traveler Posted November 21, 2019 #3 Share Posted November 21, 2019 The time you were given is WHAT TIME TO ARRIVE AT THE PORT OF MIAMI not what time you will be allowed to board the ship. Assigned arrival times are supposed to act as a crowd control for thee terminal-- doe not work. What time you can board depends on lots of factors but Customs and Border Protection determines when boarding can begin.
Greek Boss Posted November 21, 2019 #4 Share Posted November 21, 2019 They have "embarkation times" different for everyone to spread out the crowds and prevent everyone from showing up at once. Actual boarding time is typically at noon. We have had 11am and 10am embarkation times only to be sitting in the cruise terminal for an hour or two. Well, this is less than ideal. ive never rushed to embark but we usually arrive day before and move at a leisurely pace.
Greek Boss Posted November 21, 2019 #6 Share Posted November 21, 2019 @havanadaydreaming I will be honest I have noticed a difference since they started implementing it. Even though embarkation isn't usually until noon, I do still opt to get there around 10-11 just to have a seat by the gangway in the terminal and to just board whenever we are called! nyc2pdx Posted November 21, 2019 #7 Share Posted November 21, 2019 I'm leaving on my cruise in just over 2 weeks...I am in a Haven suite-is that why I wasn't assigned a time on the Joy?

If you are staying in the Haven they will direct you to a private holding area after you arrive and check-in at the pier. It is a small lounger that has finger foods and some drinks. The typically will let you board before everyone else. I would still arrive between 10 and 11 to enjoy that priority embarkation.
salty dingo Posted November 22, 2019 #9 Share Posted November 22, 2019 Times are not enforced. Get there when you can. No way anyone will embark at 10:30... people will have just finished leaving and security sweep needs to be done.

The times to arrive at port, are not enforced.
