how to list your cruises under your signature when posting?

Recommended Posts

Please note there are new limits. Here is the list of what you can include:

  •  Maximum of 3 images
  •  Images up to 447 x 204 pixels
  •  Maximum of 3 URLs

Old signatures were grandfathered during the October 2018 change from vBulletin to Invision software. However, once you edit your signature with the old limits the new signature must follow the new limits.

I have a grandfathered signature and I don't want to change it until I can find out the limit of characters and/or lines.  I've done a lot of searching and can't find those numbers anywhere.  It would have been very helpful if that information was listed in the "How To:  Edit Signature link.  My Signature is already out of date.  😞

When they first changed the rules there was a limit to the number of rows. I believe that that is no longer in effect. The only limitations are to links and images.

Your signature is completely made up of simple text; you should have no problem in adding rows.

I'm sorry I didn't get back to this in a timely manner.  My Mom hasn't been well.  I did hear back from JennK Senior Community Support Specialist back in early December and here is what she emailed me:

"Hi there!  The number of lines has been set to unlimited

Pictures are limited to 3"

I just updated my signature and all went well!

Hi.

I see the number of rows are now unlimited as noted above, but what about linking to trip reports for the listed trips?

I have multiple rows and many have a link to the trip report.  Will I be able to add more or will I lose the links?

I saw several people linked to a google document to have just one link but I haven’t figured that one out yet.  If that’s my only option I’ll do that.

Ideally I can continue to add my links on each row with the trip

Thank you

Noreen

All I can offer you regarding the allowed amount of URLs in a signature is from above:

I suggest you contact CC Help Jenn at help@cruisecritic.com to find out if the URL limit has been changed just as the amount of lines has been changed. Send your email from your Cruise Critic email address of record and be sure to mention your Cruise Critic user name.

As a friendly reminder to all reading this thread, please note the following from the Posting and You! section in the Guidelines:

Signatures
Cruise Critic has the following suggestions for keeping your online signatures manageable:

  • Keep your images to around three (approx) -- which would include a picture, clipart, photo or your countdown.
  • Try not to have any one image that is TOO large, which then takes additional time for your fellow members to download,
  • If you have a LONG LIST of prior cruises, think about chopping off some, OR rearrange them horizontally rather than vertically;
  • From time to time, browse through your signature and eliminate any extra blank lines, or old countdown codes, etc.
Cruise Critic reserves the right to remove/delete portions of your online signature and will let you know that we've had to resize your online signature.

Happy sails,

I cannot add a signature or turn on the view signature button. Well, actually I can do both, but they will not save.  I keep getting "504 error Request could not be satisfied" I have signed in and out several times and also rebooted the computer. Now what?

At this time I see you have code for the following two dead Cruise Critic Countdown Clocks in your signature. It makes no matter if they are still counting down or have expired. The Cruise Critic Countdown Clocks at https://www.cruisecritic.com/vbulletin/countdown.cfm no longer work in signatures. See my post #8 in the thread titled Editing My Signature on this forum.

countdown.pl?image=Beach-2&name=beach_fever_4ever&date=10-23-2018&text=&ship=Emerald%20Princess

countdown.pl?image=Beach-2&name=beach_fever_4ever&date=1-06-2019&text=20 days sailing the Caribbean&ship=Crown Princess

I have removed them from your signature for you so your signature is now empty of all code. This should help your situation. As I understand it, a member needs a compliant signature in order to change their signature since the switch from vBulletin to Invision software back in October 2018.

I sincerely hope this will be helpful and glad to have you aboard Cruise Critic!  emo35.gif

I'm curious why one would want to list their previous cruises everytime they post. Or anytime for that matter.

Because they can. emo3.gif  After all, this is a site about cruising.

If anyone does not want to see them, then just turn them off. Click their user name over the Search bubble, click Account Settings then Signature. Use the switch under View signatures?

In the previous vBulletin software a member could turn off their signature on some of their posts in a thread. They would leave it there for their first post, but then choose not to display it in the other posts they made in that same thread. I did it that way myself and enjoyed the feature. But alas, it is not a feature in the current Invision software.

Often a signature with a member's cruise history will help other members locate someone they have sailed with before. Also, some members "trust" more in information posted by someone with a long list. Me? I do it because after 74 years my "rememberer" is often broken and I need help. emo34.gif
