Chief7 Posted November 23, 2019 #1 Share Posted November 23, 2019 We sail Regal on February 2nd and one of the YouTube Vlog "experts" reported that the WiFi on Regal was VERY slow - in January 2018. Now here we are in November 2019. Has anyone sailed Regal lately that can update their WiFi experience for me?
Colo Cruiser Posted November 23, 2019 #2 Share Posted November 23, 2019 Have sailed the Regal a few times since Nov 18. The MedallionNet speed is excellent and was only added late last year so the comment you read is not accurate for current cruises. It May also depend on location in the world. From Florida to the Azores, the speed was just-like-at-home. At the Azores, the "O3b" satellites were down on the southern horizon and due to drop below it as we went north, so Regal switched to GEO satellites and internet speed took a significant tumble. Still better than what was common a few years ago, but nowhere the speed we had FLL/PDL. The O3b constellation is available within about 48º of the equator, but each of its satellites can only handle 10 ships (or other customers) at any given time. lx200gps Posted November 24, 2019 #6 Share Posted November 24, 2019 Writing this on the Regal right now, and service is fine. If you enjoy Gigabit service at home you might be disappointed, but the service here is about equivalent to our lowly 300MPS service. Only issue was a slowdown a few hours ago which I expect is a LOT of people all logging on at the same time at the end of the cruise to check account balances and to check flights home tomorrow. Otherwise, great service and MUCH better than the old pre-Medallion service
BlueCO102 Posted November 24, 2019 #7 Share Posted November 24, 2019 We were on the Regal in April. I had no issues and was quite happy with the speeds. I agree there were occasional slowdowns, but fortunately it never interfered with what I wanted to do, including streaming live video.
