Solo from Getaway 1st December liveish review

Well I decided to start a review and noticed that Sid has already started one for his trip on The Encore. We will not be in competition!

My travels started in the UK today with pretty crappy start, 5 trains to Manchester airport cancelled from Leeds. Eventually got the train to Manchester and another one to the airport.

I fly out to the US tomorrow, Virgin Atlantic to Atlanta and then to New Orleans. Already frustrated that I didn’t book an extra day in New Orleans but business is too busy and that’s what pays for my cruises!

Decided to order US/Mexican style dinner from room service (staying at the Crowne Plaza at the airport ). Chicken wings, loaded nachos and two Coronas. Both plates of food were good but only 6 small wings as opposed to the 28-30 I would get in the US 😂

The cruise is a poker cruise and I am playing in the tournament. Staying in an inside cabin on deck 5 midship. Did try to upgrade to a balcony but wasn’t going to pay $1000 for it! I do like the position of my cabin and I do sleep well in an inside!

Already upgraded my beverage package and have unlimited WiFi which I need for work.

Will check in with you all tomorrow from the airport. Happy Thanksgiving to you all.

cheers

Pat

Hello from Manchester airport. Waiting to board my flight and indulging in an American style breakfast first 😂

Pancakes, Syrup, bacon and coffee.

No dramas this morning.

Have a 3 hour layover in Atlanta as last time Virgin only allowed 45 minutes to get through customs, immigration and onto The connecting flight! About 12 of us missed the flight and had to wait over 2 hours for the next one.

I prefer relaxing to rushing!

Talk to you from Atlanta. Have a great day x

Welcome to the US!

Your layover in Atlanta will be great. Hartsfield-Jackson Airport is huge and there are plenty of restaurants and shops in there to help your layover go by very quick. Just know ahead of time what gate your flight departs from - Atlanta is known for being the busiest airport in the world based on passenger traffic so just a heads up!

Best of luck in the Poker tournament and enjoy your cruise!

Ok, so not very live or even liveish! Couldn’t charge my iPad until on the ship!

so Atlanta decided to change the gate for my flight to New Orleans 3 times! As the post above says, the busiest airport so you can guess this was a pain the ***!
Flight was fine. Taxi to my hotel, well New Orleans was busy, busy, busy! Lots of roads blocked so had to walk with my 2 cases and 2 bags about a block to my hotel because the taxi couldn’t get any closer.

Then the hotel had no note of my reservation 😱 after an 18 hour day I was not amused 🤨
Booked through Hotwire who confirmed with me but not with the hotel. Anyway long story short I got a refund from Hotwire and Wyndham charged me less than Hotwire had!

Woken by lots of noise around 3-3.30 which would have been the shootings, puts things into perspective and hope those poor people are ok.

Uneventful taxi ride to the port but did share a tax with two CC members from Vancouver Island - Laura and her mum whose name I have forgotten ! Sorry!

Had to stop at the crossing for the longest train ever to go by!

Priority boarding for Casinos at Sea guests so that was good.

Made my way to Margaritaville for a beer and a Margarita and then had lunch there - conch fritters and a fish sandwich, very nice.

Walked to the Sunset bar at Waterside and enjoyed a perfect Margarita.

Rooms ready at 2 pm. I had kept my inside room midships and it’s very nice, plenty of space and great location.

After muster I decided a quick nap could be in order and 2 hours later got ready for dinner at Ocean Blue.

I was really looking forward to this as I missed this on the Breakaway, couldn’t get a reservation for when I needed it.

Service was excellent but I was disappointed in the food tbh, maybe I just chose the wrong thing!

Firecracker shrimp, ok but not very crispy, Fishermans platter, shrimp and scallops were good but didn’t like the fish or squid. Key Lime Meringue pie, much too sweet for me.

Washed down with a couple of glasses of rose Champagne.
Went to the sunset bar where I met up with a few more CC’ers  including Lisa and Mike, Lauria and others and enjoyed a drink with them. Look forward to being a little more compus mentis  when I see everyone at the Meet and a Greet tomorrow.

Time for an early night.

Hope to be more upbeat tomorrow after a good sleep! 😂

I am so sorry to hear that you happened to be in NOLA during the shootings 😢 it's a shame these things happen. Hopefully the cruise itself keeps your mind off of that. Keep us posted with your trip! Hoping it is a great time from this point forward!

Jumping in and following along with you. We are doing our first NCL cruise on the Getaway in March. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and seeing your photos!

So sorry to hear about your hotel mishap. I just booked our hotel on Hotwire this morning and we are at the Hilton Riverside. I hope they have our reservation when we get there!

Question: I have read that the muster drill is held inside can you verify if this is correct?

Depending on where your stateroom is on the ship, you could be sent to any select area for the drill. Last month on the Breakaway we were taken in the atrium, while other times our assigned station was outside.

Can't wait to hear about your tournament!    So sorry to hear you had a rough first day & night in NOLA.  It is one of our favorite cities to visit.   Hope you get to visit it again and enjoy more of the city.

We were on the Getaway in mid-November and had a great time.   Loved the entertainment and had some great meals. The Casino staff was super friendly and I'm sure they will make all of you feel very welcome.  One of our favorites from a prior cruise (Dvacs) had just gotten on the ship when we did to help prepare for the tournament.      Hope you get great cards and have fun!

Well it was not to be! Never had such terrible hands, no matter how aggressive I would want to be 8 3 off and similar would never get me anywhere 🤨
Best hand all night QQ which I won with, but couldn’t get anywhere. Out by 10 pm.

Plenty more poker to play though so let’s see how it goes 😂
Thanks for the good wishes.
