MickeyG Posted December 5, 2019 #1 Share Posted December 5, 2019 A question for all seasoned HAL cruisers.......Our ship is returning to Ft. Lauderdale between 7-8 AM. Is 3 PM a reasonable time to book a flight on the day our ship returns to port? We are flying out of Ft. Lauderdale. We'd like to get to the airport no later than 1PM. Thanks....Mick
travelnap Posted December 5, 2019 #2 Share Posted December 5, 2019 You should not have any problem at all making that flight. The airport is fairly close to the port and is no more than 15 minutes away. I usually try for a flight around noon so I am not rushed, but you will have no problem making a 3 PM flight even if the port is crowded that day.

leerathje Posted December 5, 2019 #4 Share Posted December 5, 2019 Yes. My DH, myself, Dad, Brother and SIL were on a Caribbean cruise last January. They had a flight booked at 2, and had no problems at all. DH and I decided to hang around Ft. Lauderdale for another day.
woodworker&knitter Posted December 5, 2019 #5 Share Posted December 5, 2019 Just off the Veendam yesterday. Walked off the ship at 8:25, through immigration, got a cab, and at the airport before 9:00
Gigi1977 Posted December 5, 2019 #6 Share Posted December 5, 2019 You will be just fine. We are booked through HAL for 11:30 am. We have made it to the airport and could have caught a 10 am flight. . . but you never know. I’d stick with the 11:30 or later time frame.

Krazy Kruizers Posted December 5, 2019 #8 Share Posted December 5, 2019 You will have lots of time to have a nice lunch at the airport before boarding your plane.
Rare Mary229 Posted December 5, 2019 #9 Share Posted December 5, 2019 You would even have time for a shore excursion.
Hoosier Grandaddy Posted December 6, 2019 #10 Share Posted December 6, 2019 Plenty of time. This January I made a 12:50 flight with hours to spare. In February I've got an 11:40 am from the Konigsdam; I'm only a little nervous
DaveOKC Posted December 6, 2019 #11 Share Posted December 6, 2019 We have gotten to FLL as early as 8:30 am, but for safety sake I would not book earlier than 11:30 am.
Rare FlaMariner Posted December 6, 2019 #12 Share Posted December 6, 2019 We did early disembarkation from the Nieuw Statendam in November. We were out of the Uber and at FLL at 8am..... As others suggested, you've got time to go explore Fort Lauderdale.
TAD2005 Posted December 7, 2019 #13 Share Posted December 7, 2019 With all that time to kill, go to Coconuts at 429 Seabreeze, right next to the old Swimming Hall of Fame. Great food, a little expensive.

RuthC Posted December 8, 2019 #16 Share Posted December 8, 2019 Self-disembarkation generally begins about 7:30, give or take 15 minutes. Tag colors/numbers start about 15 minutes later, organized by on-going arrangements. People with earlier flights get the earlier disembarkation times; those with later flights, the later times. Those without time sensitive arrangements are later than those with a deadline. Final call is generally about 9:30-9:45; I have heard it more than once. Our experience on 11/10 getting off the Nieuw Statendam.......we requested early/self-disembarkation and it was scheduled for 7:30 but they started at 7:15.....We were in Uber and at FLL at 8am. Easy as it could be. We are "sold" on early disembarkation....but remember, you are your own porter and you are hauling off your luggage. HAL makes that perfectly clear many, many, many times but when we were departing, there were some sorry souls that struggled with their luggage and some that, as inconsiderate as it is, managed to end up with stewards doing the hauling for them......I have no use for those fellow passengers and think their luggage should be tossed in the Atlantic.
