It could be as any passenger near the bar and within range of the bartenders reader/info screen will pop up on that screen. They could be clicked on by mistake.

Always pays to keep checking. I did this long before any Medallions came into use.

We were on Caribbean princess in November and had 2 spurious charges laid against our account.  One was a casino charge for a small amount - like $5 and some change.  The other was a bar charge for $15 and change.  We don't drink and didn't even use the free drink from Mellallion.net.  We did pass through the casino on the way to our room one evening and there was a large crowd in there huddled around for some event.  maybe it scanned our medallion as we passed by.

Both charges were reversed, but it made me very suspicious and I watched our on board account charges very closely from then on.  Nothing further came up.  I did have the coffee card and one night I was ordering a specialty coffee and the barista just confirmed my name, and it was not my name - it ended up being the guy behind me.  If I had said yes - that's me, he would have charged the other guy's account.  I turned and asked his name and when it matched the name the barista mentioned, I told him he almost bought me a coffee.

This system should be far more secure before being released for use.  Numerous others have reported discrepancies, and those with considerable bar charges may not even notice if an extra one is on there or not.

Just not reliable enough yet.

Seems to me servers should scan the medallion before the charge is made. Should reduce this problem to very minimal. Small photos can be misleading. Passenger could also keep the medallion in an RFD protection sleeve, only remove it for use.

Getting the charge reversed isn't always easy. Earlier this year, not on a medallion enabled cruise, a charge for Coca Cola appeared on my account. I don't drink Coca Cola and had never used the bar in question. Customer Services repeatedly asked me if I was sure I hadn't purchased the drink and seemed very reluctant to reverse the charge however I persisted and eventually they did.

It wasn't a great experience.

Keep in mind that one of the venues in which those drinks are being sold and served is the theatre, where the drinks are passed to a customer several seats out of reach.

I've been charged for drinks that weren't mine in the past. I've also been charged for drinks when I had the beverage package. I keep track of my folio on my phone. It's quick and easy to do. I check it daily and any bogus charges get taken care of at passenger services. I don't enjoy having to get things straightened out but this has been going on long before medallions came into being. I also keep track at home. I get a notice on my phone within about 30 seconds of my credit card being charged for anything.

Now that I can see my folio at any time on my smart phone it makes it a lot easier to watch the charges.  Last cruise on a non-medallion ship, I had an erroneous charge and had it removed.  I have been on one medallion ship so far and I had a charge that was not mine.  They removed it.  I also have had bar charges when I had the PBP (SnS) and had them removed.  Mistakes happen but not too often.  Moral is to watch your folio on a very regular basis and contest the charge as soon as it appears.
