Pick your 2020 "dream" cruise

Recommended Posts

What 2020 NCL cruise would you select to take if your spouse was picking up the tab and only wanted to go on an itinerary that most suited YOUR interests?

No rules, no limitations.

(I have one of those "historic" birthdays that ends with a 0 in 2020 and I've always said I wanted to spend a week on St Maarten watching the planes land at SXM.  My wife asked me if I would be open to a "MYSTERY VACATION" where I don't know where we are going until I get there.  Sure why not?!?  We just got off the Sky on 12/6 and I received an email afterwards with a reservation number in the subject.  I clicked it and immediately saw the name of a NCL ship which we haven't sailed - and almost as immediately closed the window. ACK ACK.  Soooooo....I will refrain from looking at the NCL website until further notice, don't want to spoil the surprise.)

But, I thought it'd be cool to see where y'all would want to go....especially if you weren't necessarily paying the tab personally.

Not on NCL but my wife would love to do the 128 day Grand World cruise offered by Holland America.  But with a balcony cabin costing a mere $43,500 per person I'm pretty sure that will always be nothing more than a pipe dream.  It even includes the Amazon River, Panama Canal, and Suez Canal.  I wonder how many visas I would have to buy for that cruise?  Perhaps if I start buying lottery tickets I might have a chance.

My dream cruise would be on the Jewel, however, it would also be a b2b2b - 3 cruises.  Vancouver > Hawaii, Hawaii> Tahiti and back to Hawaii.

However, what I'll probably do is the Hawaii to Tahiti. Dream on...

Good luck OP, here's hoping your dream comes true.

Does it have to be on NCL?

I currently have a few cruises in my bucket list:

- Asia / Pacific on the currently under construction Wonder of the Seas

- Panama Canal on Princess

- World Cruise on the Queen Mary 2

- Norwegian Fjords on P&O’s Iona

If it’s something that’s specific to NCL, I’ve never sailed in a Haven suite, so that’s in my bucket list as well. Currently booked on a Haven suite on the Encore for Feb 2021.

Definitely Hawaii/Tahiti. The French Polynesia is on my bucket list and I want to make it out there someday!

I’ve been to a lot of places but this one is right at the top as well. I want to take my kids but flights from Papeete back to Detroit are brutal money wise.

I just got a brochure in the mail with the Jewel Vancouver to Hawaii to Tahiti back to back to back cruises. Oh what a dream! I also really want to find a cruise that goes from Florida around Cape Horn and back through the Panama Canal to Florida. Less flying more cruising.

My wife has dibs next year on hawaii cruise, her "0" bday.

She is also big on getting to Aruba, Curacao, Bonaire- 3 of the few places she hasn't been. She has cruised for decades.

I did mention the Canal as a bucket list...last year we did 11 nt on Epic our first longer than 7. We survived it with ease, ha!

Taking our "Dream cruise" on the Jade, 2/23/20.  It's a 20 night from Singapore with stops in Kuala Lumpur, Langkawi, Phuket (overnight), Sabang (Indonesia), Maldives, Seychelles (overnight), Oman (2 stops), Abu Dhabi and ends in Dubai.  Staying 4 nights in Dubai post cruise.  Got an Oceanview cabin, then upgraded with points (30,000) to a balcony.  Life is looking great for 2020! 🏝️🛳️🌅

Any of the NCL cruises visiting the Hawaiian Islands would be wonderful...….definitely a trip of a life time.

combination of my favorite cruise lines and offerings, but would be,

first love the idea of freestyle, main dining rooms , I cruise solo mostly, so love that I can go anytime to the dining rooms savor and taste etc, whether alone, or with others that I might have met during the cruise, like the flexibility of that. Norwegian buffet also looks very good to me. Because I am mostly used to Carnival I would also enjoy a cruise that has the Blue Iguana of Carnival, (guy burger ok too, but not a deal breaker for me).

I do love to play slots in a casino, and do budget an amount for each day, but find that Carnival's casinos are way to cigarette smoke smoky, for my comfort, and have been a long time since on a Norwegian ship casino, so don't know the difference, but have to say that , Carnival for me right now is out of the question completely just because of the extremely smokey situation in their on board casinos.  Last two cruises on Carnival I came back with upper respiratory infections, that I clearly put down to my time spent in their casinos.  Not going back to carnival till the casinos are smoke free.

have heard that other cruise lines do a better job at filtering that smoke, but still will wait to hear how that goes, before I book a next cruise.

I know Celebrity does smoke free casino, but still don't find their pricing for solo cruiser optimal.

So exciting about your mystery cruise! I’d pick spending the whole summer in the Med, ending with a transatlantic.

My dream vacation will be on the Pride of America booked for June 2021. I am doing B2B.

Will be my first return to Hawaii since 1980 when I was there doing bus tours. My dad was alive then.

Always thought I would get to someday return on a honeymoon but I have given up.

I am in one of the solo studio rooms and will go around twice.

I'd say a Grand World Voyage, on HAL or one of the ultra luxury lines. OR Hawaii/Thahiti mentioned earlier by someone, which I might not have though about if I was the first to answer.  OR a 14 day Alaska on a smaller ship.  Also a Baltic cruise with an overnight in St. Petersburg is on the list.

I am not sure that I would want to cruise Asia.  I have been to SE Asia twice by land and it is so easy on the eye and the pocket, I think a land tour is more relaxing than short port stops.

But....  I have an Aft cabin on the Iona in June.  So excited.  I went to the Greek Islands on the Star in September which was a bucket list cruise.  Norway is my last bucket cruise.  Everything left on my bucket list has to be visited by land.

If it were up to me, a land vacation would be more desirable than a cruise to truly get a sense of what that region of the world has to offer, but at the same time, at this stage in my life, I believe that a cruise would be a better option for my family.

We have young children that have a more limited attention span, and my wife is not big on exploring for extended periods of time (she’s the type of traveler that goes somewhere, explores for a few minutes, and she’s ready to move on). For me it’s sometimes painful because I could stay somewhere longer but I’m usually outvoted.

We did the Mediterranean last year and had a fabulous time. But while I could’ve stayed for days in certain cities (like Barcelona and Valletta), the rest of the family was ready to go back to the ship after a few hours. So I need to take that into account. Maybe when the kids are older we could do an extended land vacation in SE Asia, but for now, a cruise would be a great way to to introduce the kids to Asia, just like a cruise was a great way to introduce the kids to the Mediterranean.

Have a great time sailing on the Iona! She looks like a wonderful ship!
