The good, bad, and ugly from a Regal Princess Eastern Caribbean cruise

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the review as we're on Regal in a few weeks.

We better not have a cabin steward who just walks in though!   That is just rude and I will have no problem telling him so.  🤭

Thank you for your refreshing review! I hope the cabin steward is no longer with Princess!!

We made our comments known on the survey. What Princess chooses to do is up to them.

Small things I can deal with (forgetting ice, etc.). But coming into our cabin on the last morning, moving our stuff, and prop'ing the door open is unacceptable.

Alas, I hopeful for the next cruise!

Andrew 🙂

Have an amazing time, Lori!

I hope you get to encounter Zaza too.

Enjoy,

Andrew 🙂

We board Regal this Sunday and I will be on the lookout for an attendant named Leonard. Imagine if he was assigned to our stateroom? 😏

Andrew, thank you for your great review; loved your pics but still grossed out about your balcony and your cabin being left open. Leonard sounds like he needs some focused retraining.

I'm super jealous and wish I was getting back on board.

It's my understanding that cabin stewards pretty much have the same group of cabins for their contract. So if you're staying aft on the Dolphin deck, I'm sorry. If you're staying anywhere else, I'm happy for you! 🙂

It is nice to hear you would be glad to board again. We are mid ship on the Riviera deck, so no Leonard for us!👌

Sunday should be crazy at the port as there are 8 ships sailing. Parking for those of us who drive to the port will be a challenge.

We just reserved in an off site lot as I do not think there will be parking in the port terminal garages for all of these ships on the 21st and 22nd.

Thanks again! I hope to read one of your future Live threads.😁

If anyone is staying on Baja, Forward they need to watch out for Fernando. This dude overstepped his boundaries three times. One of those times was similar to your experience on the last day. We both put the information in our surveys and we were extremely detailed as to what he did and what we clearly told him. If I'm in the cabin, the "Privacy Please" is on the door. If I call for tea or room service I tell them it's on the door and to knock. I don't like the idea that they can somehow unlock the deadbolt. I need to check with some people who know about locks so they can explain that to me.

Andrew and Brad, I have read a few reviews of your over the years, and one thing I always think...you are such a handsome couple, especially in the picture where you are in your tuxes...just beautiful!

Missaretha-I thought the attendant's name was Leonard and he is in the aft area on the Dolphin deck. You are mentioning Fernando. Is there a second rouge attendant?

I agree that it is not good that the deadbolt on the door can be overridden by an attendant.

I have never had that happen and thought if you had a privacy please on your door and your deadbolt locked, your privacy was assured. This is of concern as we are sailing on Sunday and I will be sure to speak with our attendant to insist he wait for us to open the door before entering.

I will not have Medallion. I want to see how the information on this system is protected before we use it. I do not like that a picture and a name are visible along with our location on the ship.

There are so many tales of hacking into systems, I prefer to give this system time. So, "Fernando" or "Leonard" or "Attendant" will not know where we are and that is fine with us.

I had Leonard. She had Fernando. Double trouble. Beware!!! 😂😂😂

Just wanted to add my thanks for your honest and detailed review.  Always refreshing to read someone who can appreciate the good and acknowledge the areas that need improvement.  We'll be sailing Princess for the first time in about a decade and I'm glad to have a reasonable set of expectations.  Probably going to brave the MDR a few times, wish us luck!

We had this on a Celebrity cruise. Our steward walked in a few times every day with (to me) stupid excuses: "Here are more face-washers", "Here are clean glasses", "Here is the programme for the next day" etc. I wished I had a door-stop to use on the inside of the door to stop him entering. Every evening when he came in, I was in bed and my husband was in the shower. The steward should have pushed the programme for the next day under the closed door. It was an invasion of our privacy. We don't like to complain, but in retrospect, we should have.

We were on The Regal over Thanksgiving and the Rock Orchestra was one of the highlights.   They were great.  We spoke with the young guitarist (he looked 20, but was 26) and he said he worked as a videographer on the ship.  We thoroughly enjoyed it and I think that the Piazzi is a perfect place for it.  It was really cool to see it jammed pack around the railing on all 3 floors!

We had a great cabin stewart.  We were in Marina 503 and had De.  My husband said he only saw him for about 5 seconds the entire cruise.  I saw him several times, as I went to the IC around 6 and I would see him then.   He was very stealth, going into our cabin when we weren't and tidying up.  Our ice was always full.  No complaints about him.

Our only complaint was our meal at the Crown Grill.  Our steaks from the MDR were better, as were our lobster tails.   We had a certificate for a free meal there, so we didn't complain, but I would have if we had paid extra for it.  My husband's ribeye was not good at all.   We thought that the food in the MDR was excellent and we enjoyed the buffet at lunch.

Yes IF they bother to look at or carry their handheld display.  🙄

They don’t have to  look at their handheld.  Just look at the display at the door. If you’re in your room, there’s a medallion logo, (I believe)next to your name, I believe it means you’re in your cabin.  If there’s nothing after your name, you’re out.  Not nice.

Many times I left my Medallion in the room.
Better they look at their display that’s what it’s for.

Thank you for the compliments. I try to make all my reviews as balanced as possible, with a little snark thrown in for good measure.

Have an amazing time. And I do hope you’ll post your thoughts when you’re back. I think you have a unique perspective as someone who’s cruised Princess, but hasn’t done so for a decade. I’d be interested in hearing your “what’s changed in 10 years” observations.... because it’s been a lot!! (For the better and some for the worse).

Enjoy your cruise!

Andrew 🙂

Hi,

We have been on Regal and have not used a medallion.  What our room attendant told us was with out the medallion he would not know if we were in the cabin or not.  We used a key card.  I don't know if that is still true now.

Geocruiser-Thanks for that update. We were not sure of not having one, but when I read the posts on CC I really have a concern about data protection. I do not see that mentioned anywhere. We will survive!

Interesting but I have never read so many posts related to room attendants entering cabins without waiting for the door to be answered. Now if they have knowledge with Medallion that you are in there, and still enter, something is not right.

The crew members who do that rock concert on the Regal do it on their own time. They have to rehearse on their free time. Not every person participating is working on the ship as a musician. Martin and Dan aren't musicians on the ship. One of the guitarists is some kind of engineer on the ship. The pirate lady only performs for that concert. Otherwise, she works in the casino.

Will it be on the Sky? Only if the Cruise Director Alex wants it. He went from the Caribbean Princess to the Sky. We met him on his last cruise before going to the Sky and Martyn had not started the Princess Rock Orchestra yet. It was in the planning stages before July of this year. That orchestra is Martyn's brainchild.

We did ask how we could help. He said to put it on our surveys when we got them. They need money for some better equipment like speakers. They need to be allowed to book space to rehearse as part of their work time.

If you cruise on the Sky and you see nothing like that during your cruise, put it right into your survey that you would like to see a Princess Rock Orchestra just like the Regal has. The more corporate sees it, the more seriously they'll look at it.

I was told this info on our 10/31/19 Regal cruise.  So, the info is not too old.

The Sky and to ask if the rock concert mentioned by the poster I quoted will be taking place on our cruise this week or next week.

Have a blast. Caught a glimpse of your live from thread. Glad the weather cleared up. A friend of ours works on the ship and sent me a photo from Grand Cayman today. Looked lovely!!

We have been  thinking about returning to princess as our first cruise together was the golden princess.  The drink package is a deterrent right now 15 drinks including water, coffees and alcohol.  That’s not a good deal to me. Hopefully, they will make a change soon to match Rccl and celebrity.
