speedoguy1 Posted December 23, 2019 #1 Share Posted December 23, 2019 60-year-old recently divorced closeted guy. Have never taken a gay cruise and was wanting to find out if I would be comfortable take a gay exclusive cruise. Not sure how far outside my comfort zone this would be but I am curious if others have been in my situation. i would be going as single man. I am familiar with Atlantis but know that other companies operate in that same space. I would also be interested in perhaps the Mediterranean area or Greek islands, Spain. thanks in advance for directing me to someplace where I could read more information whether it be a blog or review. Kekohia Posted December 28, 2019 #2 Share Posted December 28, 2019 Nothing to fear being solo on an Atlantis cruise. I prefer RSVP. Gay cruises are far more $ than regular cruises and the added cost is just not worth it. The entertainment quality level is less. I went on one in the Mediterranean and it was a disaster because of the management overplaying the gayness in Turkey. We were pulled off the tours and rushed back to the ship. Regular cruises today are far more welcoming to the community and in fact they have nightly gatherings that are very popular. Small gay groups are better to go on then a full gay cruise. Plus I wear my speedos every day on a ship on deck or in the awesome private spas that do not have the crowds.
MiamiSpartan Posted December 30, 2019 #3 Share Posted December 30, 2019 Both RSVP & Atlantis are great. Frankly don’t see much difference between the two. Many of the same people sail both. Europe skews a bit older which is nice. if you’re a partier you will have a great time. If you are not you will still have a great time. Lots of great events on board for single people. I think you would have a great time. keep us posted with what you decide.
donnatello Posted December 31, 2019 #4 Share Posted December 31, 2019 I'd suggest looking at "Pied Piper". They do gay groups on a variety of lines/ships/itinerary. Groups are on average 10-30 folks. We've found that traveling with Pied Piper offered us the opportunity to develop close long lasting friendships. We have done an RSVP but not Atlanits. Much prefer a small group on a more "mainstream" cruise. 1
speedoguy1 Posted December 31, 2019 Author #5 Share Posted December 31, 2019 Thanks to the three people who responded. All great points. I would love to find something that is geared more towards my age group. But also with the component of meeting a lot of nice guys since I want step out of my straight focused comfort zone. For me it’s a new chapter of interaction that I want to explore. I’m not a wild party animal. But I would like to feel more comfortable in the social scene.. I will explore all of them especially the European or Mediterranean type cruises. I will also check into pied piper.

You may also want to look at Vacaya, the new kid on the block, that is reaching out to include everyone. The inaugural cruise August 2019 was a blast and their customer service excels Atlantis/RSVP by far.

Kekohia Posted January 27, 2020 #8 Share Posted January 27, 2020 My preference is still Holland America. Bars may close around midnight but casino goes into the wee hours. The food is the best, and their new entertainment venues were terrific in my cruise a week ago. Before I go on a cruise I check out Meet Me On Board and look for cabin mates. If I find none, I go solo. I have a long list of buddies I have met before on cruises, and email them to see if any interested in going as well, even in our own solo cabins. I wore my speedos and then saw that 5 guys wore em the next day.
speedoguy1 Posted January 27, 2020 Author #9 Share Posted January 27, 2020 Nice to hear your story. Glad to find that you set the stage for others to follow. If you can wear them why not. Where did that cruise go? Again thanks for replying.
Kekohia Posted January 28, 2020 #10 Share Posted January 28, 2020 The cruise was an eastern Carib trip to Nassau, San Juan, St. Thomas, and private island Half Moon Cay. HMC was not fully in operation because of the storm. Otherwise it was a superb cruise on a beautiful ship that is only 1.5 years old. I put my cell phone (turned off) in the cabin safe on embarkation and left it there until we were back in FTL. That is the only way to get full relief and rest while on vacation and not get hundreds of work emails every day. I do that on every cruise including the prior two-week cruise from Miami to Los Angeles on NCL. That was also awesome on the NCL Star as I was on her maiden cruise to Hawaii and had no connections to the world then either. Do join MMOB and see if others are on a cruise you would like to take and the possibility of a cabin mate.
